Behind the Waterfall
David Lanz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Anata dake ima miteru mou aenaku naru kara

Kono mama zutto mou kitto furikaeru koto mo nai
Wasureru koto wa nai yo itsumo sobani ita no ni

Nakidashisou na sora no shita tada tachisukunde iru

...Time is not on my side

Itsumo anata no soba de naitari warattari wo

Kurikaesu hibi mou nidoto modoru koto nante nai

Kanashimi ni sayonara wo sugu ni ieru you nara

Hito wa dare mo ga tsuyoi mono

I wanna be with you

Itsumademo te wo tsunaide

Doko made mo ikitakatta

Kajikanda yubisaki nukumori wo sagashita

心はずっと no way, no way
Kokoro wa zutto no way, no way
心中永遠 no way, no way

Ashita wa sono mukou he yukeru kana

Oh, alone again

′Watashi mo suki nanda yo' sou itte ita no wa ne

...I will never leave you

Anata kara no meeru wo zenbu keshite mita kedo

Yasashii koe wa kioku kara kie wa shinai n darou

′Moshimo negai ga hitotsu kanau no nara' nante ne

Arifureta koto omotte wa

I wanna be with you

Itsumademo te wo tsunaide

Doko made mo ikitakatta

Kajikanda yubisaki nukumori wo sagashita

心はずっと no way, no way
Kokoro wa zutto no way, no way
心中永遠 no way, no way

Ashita wa sono mukou he yukeru kana

Oh, alone again

Anata no sono egao mo ookina tenohira mo

Omoide ni nanka shitaku wa nakatta

心はずっと zutto no way, no way
Kokoro wa zutto no way, no way
心中一直 no way, no way

Ashita wa sono mukou he yukeru kana

Oh, alone again

Itsumademo te wo tsunaide

Doko made mo ikitakatta

Kajikanda yubisaki nukumori wo sagashita

心はずっと no way, no way
Kokoro wa zutto no way, no way
心中永遠 no way, no way

Ashita wa sono mukou he yukeru kana

Overall Meaning

The Japanese lyrics in David Lanz's song "Behind the Waterfall" speak of the pain of losing someone close and the struggle to let go of past memories. The writer starts by saying that they are looking at the person who they won't be able to see again, acknowledging the fact that they are going to be separated from their loved one forever. The writer then talks about how they will never forget the time they spent with their loved one and the fact that they will never be able to go back to those times again. In the second verse, the writer speaks about how they always cried and laughed with their loved one and how those days are now gone and will never return. The writer further exclaims how they want to be with their loved one forever, holding hands and going anywhere they want. The writer shows that they are still holding on to the memories of their loved one, but they realize that they need to let go and move on in life, even though it's hard.

The lyrics of "Behind the Waterfall" show a sense of sadness and heartbreak, where the writer is trying to come to terms with the fact that they will never see their loved one again. The song represents the emotions of losing someone close to you and feeling lost and alone. It is a reminder to cherish the moments spent with the people who matter the most in our lives and not take their presence for granted.

In the darkest times, I heard this music and it saved my miserable life. Today, it inspires me to ever greater aspirations. Thank you to the musicians who gave me me a gridwork to glue my life to in my most desperate times.

This is truly a classic song I had never given any thought that David Lanz and Paul Speer had written and performed this song. When I was about seven or eight years of age anytime I would go anywhere with my mom and dad in the car, my mother would have the radio on and like my dad they would play the easy listening music radio stations. Well this song happened to come on and it never left my memory and even though I might have not known the title of this song. I was completely surprised when I heard that David Lanz and Paul Speer had performed it. I actually Came Upon This song about a month ago when I was looking through New Age music on Spotify music app, the title is what caught my attention so I took a listen to it and I was overwhelmed with having found one of the most beautiful and relaxing pieces of new age music that I remember from my childhood. I thank David Lanz and Paul Speer for creating such a beautiful piece of music Truly a classic that I will continue to play for many years.

I can't even remember where I first heard this, or how I know it, but it was on my massage therapist's playlist the other day, and all I could do was smile. I know it's from a good time in my life, a time when I felt real and true and good. I love that so many are remembering it from childhood. I'm so happy to have found it here again so that I can listen to it over and over!

@dsbennett

We never had music like this on the radio. Just pop, cowboy, rap, and classical. Same old songs for 40 years. Zzzz. I learned about this stuff from Musical Starstreams.

@davidho5753

we are all here because we heard it years ago and we've been searching for it because it was a memory with a good association :)
