Roth's follow-up work, called 'Skyscraper', came out on January 26, 1988, dividing his fans due to its synthesizer-heavy, pop-fueled style yet having an iconic hit in the upbeat tune "Just Like Paradise". After his solo group's line-up shifted, guitar prodigy Jason Becker (formerly of Cacophony) came into the fold in 1989. Sadly, Becker contracted Lou Gehrig's Disease, and before too long he could no longer play, having only performed on one album (1991's 'A Little Ain't Enough').
Since then, Roth has employed a revolving line-up of musicians in his band. As the 90s went on, the shuffling of performers around him and changing musical tides, styles such as alternative rock becoming far more popular, found Roth's mainstream commercial fortunes diminishing. Still, he kept on touring to his own wild fan-base, and rumors of a reunion between him and his old Van Halen buddies bubbled up again and again.
In 2007, David Lee Roth rejoined Van Halen for a semi-reunion with the Van Halen brothers, along with Eddie Van Halen's son (Wolfgang Van Halen) on bass (replacing Michael Anthony from the original lineup), which lasted into 2008. On December 26, 2011, Van Halen (again with Roth) announced a tour for 2012. In what felt like no time, the rejuvenated outfit released their first album in fourteen years, titled 'A Different Kind of Truth', on February 7, 2012.

But you I never fool
Well I can rock with anyone
But never alone with you
Somethin' starts a barkin'
Now deep inside of me
I need a classy woman
To knock me off my feet
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Oh, you make me nervous
More than I had planned
Would you wanna know me
If I wasn't in the band?
Crazy feelings
Deep inside of me
I need a wild woman
To knock me off my feet
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Gotta keep things movin'
Till my personality starts improvin'
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Gotta keep things movin'
Till my personality starts improvin'
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
Shyboy, shyboy, shyboy, shyboy
Shyboy, shyboy, give it one more time boy
The song "Shyboy" by David Lee Roth is about a man who is confident and uninhibited when performing onstage, but becomes hesitant and nervous when it comes to interacting with a woman he is attracted to. The lyrics reveal that despite his ability to “rock with anyone”, he is vulnerable and needs a woman who can challenge him, make him feel comfortable, and take control. He refers to two types of women: a classy woman who he thinks can knock him off his feet, and a wild woman who he thinks can improve his personality. The song portrays a man struggling with the fear of rejection and the uncertainty of whether someone would want to know him if he wasn’t a famous musician.
This song captures a common theme in rock and roll: the confident performer who is secretly timid and unsure in their personal life. David Lee Roth’s signature style, with its high-pitched screams, flamboyant costumes, and energetic stage presence, plays off the vulnerability he expresses in his lyrics. Overall, "Shyboy" is a song about the contrast between the public persona and the private self, and how that dichotomy creates a desire for someone who easily bridges that gap.

Phenomenal album. This is David's middle finger to Eddie Van Halen. Kick ass line-up. Wish David could have kept this group together
@danielhoward4566
Yes, a Van Halen copy band. Eddie didn't care. He probably thought it was funny.
@ROOKTABULA
@@danielhoward4566 Except that this album UTTERLY crushed the much poppier Van Hagar album, 5150

@@ROOKTABULA How did the sales do.
@da324
@@danielhoward4566 There's rap records that sell more, what's your point?
@danielhoward4566
@@da324 That compared to 5150, the album didn't sell so well? And I like Roth, so yeah. It's just the truth. Nothing but the truth.

Gregg Bissonnette gets overlooked because he was in a group with Vai and Sheehan, but he's a machine...
@joconnell8145
He's a bad ass for sure!
@6672rock
Love the harmony solos between Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan. And with Greg Bissonnette on drums, this era of DLR ran like a well-oiled machine!

They needed to be. David was a hard ass about this. Steve understood why. Those two worked perfectly together. They made sure they all was tight before recording. This was David's middle finger to Eddie Van Halen
