My name is David Lehr, and I love music. A whole freakin' lot! :P
Ever since I can remember I've been playing music. It all started with a ukulele at the age of 4. My mom bought me one from a catalog, along with a songbook, and I enjoyed learning all the stupid little songs like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star", "Mary had a Little Lamb", etc etc. As the years progressed, I decided it was more fun to play my dads guitar. Now when I say "play", I really mean strum the strings really hard and loud, and scream on the top of my lungs! Real talent for sure. But either way my parents decided to get me my first guitar, which I still use from time to time. At this time I was 10. My parents bought a few books on how to learn guitar, so for a year i taught myself basic cord structures, scales, and some more silly songs. :)
This is when I really found out how much I love music. Not just playing it and singing it, but the technical side of it. How EVERYTHING about music really works and comes together. So after a year of teaching myself the basics, I started taking lessons from a guitar performance major from Butler University. He helped me and encouraged me so much, and he showed me more theory about music, and I loved every minute. After a year and half, that teacher had to move. At that point I started going through guitar teachers really fast, because I couldn't find one that loved music as much as I do, but now I have found an awesome teacher that teaches in my hometown at a little music store.
Singing came a bit differently to me. I've never really taken voice lessons, but I joined a choir called the Indianapolis Children's Choir (ICC) here in Indiana. It was here that I really learned about my voice, and how to use it. I'm now in the Indianapolis Youth Choral, which is the high school portion of ICC, and love it so much.
Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do music, just do it. If there's a will, there's definitely a way. :)
