Before the fame, Rodigan used to sell records out of a small little shop in the train station arcade in Peckham Rye Lane. He got his job by copying the radio station vibe of Mickey Campbell's "Dread at the Controls" show. Tony Williams is the real UK radio station pioneer and in the list of top notch UK based sound system selectors, Rodigan's name was never mentioned until he started going to Jamaica to clash Barry G. Rodigan does not do enough to shine a light on the UK sound system pioneers who brought him into the business.

@K W That's my point. Rodigon has no influence in dancehall, and it's a platform that promotes him. As a young man growing up in the UK, most black youth my age were into sound system. I had never heard of Rodigon until I went to live in Jamaica. He's obviously been around, but his name is/was never brought up in any conversation.

Dancehall should pay cassette men royalties, only a 200 or 300 people attend some of these dances. He did not cuss no cassette man , he simply stated that for him to pay for the venue, pay the sounds and pay for security it cost him $30-$40 thousand US. And now the cassette man would come in and profit from his recording and not pay a single penny to even enter the clash. So yes the cassette man was important, but why shouldn’t the cassette man pay a little something if he is going to profit from the dance?? @007Mssugar Ok yes I stand corrected he was awarded an MBE for his long standing radio career playing Jamaican music...Sir David...Sir Coxsone..I get that...the only difference is Sir Coxsone never got any Honor...recognition or MBE for his contribution to the industry and he happens to be one of those who Sir David learnt his craft from as well as the Jamaican radio station DJ Barry G who used to work for the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation (J.B.C)...He was the one who introduced Rodigan to the Jamaican audience and came up with the concept of sound clash from a radio DJ perspective and taught him how to clash....There is nothing authentic about David Rodigan... he just took what the Jamaicans were already doing and had access to the resources which allowed him to be able to take the thing to a different level and reach a wider audience....He has now become a notorious name and a branch of the tree of Jamaican popular music culture but the Jamaicans will forever the be the root...the foundation and the originators regardless if those who set the foundation are honored with an MBE or not.
