I once had an awful job (teaching) and my commute to work was really depressing. For a time my local radio station played a David Sedaris story at the same time I was driving to work. Saved my life.

2022,.....I was gifted the book version of this essay years ago,....It is enjoyable to hear it in spoken word by the author.

I was doing prep-work at the restaurant I was working at when I first heard this. I'm certainly not one to listen to NPR regularly if ever, but my manager at the time did and I am VERY glad it was on on this day. I wasn't able to get much done during these twelve minutes and it's a wonder that I did not cut myself with the onions. I absolutely LOVE this man's writing, but never got his name. Very glad to have it again. Thank you.

I just love his take on the world. there is no one quite like him.

I love this guy and his sister Amy.  I've read a couple of his books and of course listened to him on NPR.  His remarks on the recent suicide of his sister (not Amy) really touched me.

Had a similar experience but the people talking on the bus about me were the students I ended up interpreting for the next morning for a college class. Beautiful. ( They apologized).
