wave
David Sylvian & Robert Fripp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It seems that I remember
I dreamed a thousand dreams.
We'd face the days together,
No matter what they'd bring.
A strength inside like I'd never known,
Opened the door to life and let it go.
This sun may shine forever,
Upon the back of love.
A kingdom raised from ashes,
And held within your arms.
And should the rain break through the trees,
We'll find a shelter there and never leave.
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now.
Nothing I can lose.
This light inside can never die.
Another world just made for two.
I'll swim the seas inside with you,
And like the waves, without a sound,
I'll never let you down.
Upon a wave of summer,
A hilltop paved with gold,
We shut our eyes and make
The promises we hold.
A will to guide and see us through,
I'd do it all again because of you.
I'll run to you, nothing stands between us now,
Nothing I can lose.
This light inside can never die.
Another world just made for two.
I'll swim the seas inside with you,
And like the waves, without a sound,

I'll never let you down.
I'd tear my very soul to make you mine.

Sylvian's voice is from another world. And Fripp's guitar rains down like a storm.

@thekeywitness

When writing about Fripp, journalists often make reference to his work for Eno, Bowie and, of course, King Crimson, but they rarely talk about his work with Sylvian. That's a shame. His lead lines here and on his other collabs with Sylvian are gorgeous. It speaks to his flexibility as a creative artist and to Sylvian's great gift for melody.

@Reprodestruxion

Peter Gabriel too

@justinebourke2811

There's nothing quite like Sylvian's voice... just sublime.

@Moshavnik7272

David Sylvian is the gold thread of music that runs through my life like the ones that Russell Mills uses in his collage art, that adorned some of David’s albums.

@zararity

To my ears this version is even better than the album recording...

@Chromexus

Agreed, And the Album recording was no slouch!

@belin-teamdjokovic1628

The version on the live album Damage is even better: transcendent solo by Fripp.

@DianaRuiz2013

Thats real

@tienluketienluke4744

The bassline is one of many slow steps that guide us through the superb story telling.
