David Usher was born in Oxford to an ethnic Thai Buddhist, artist Samphan Usher and a Jewish Montrealer, Dan Usher, who is an economist at Queen's University.[1] He has relocated to Malaysia, New York, California and Thailand since early childhood before his family settled in Kingston, Ontario. He attended high school at Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute.
Attending university at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Usher joined Moist in 1993 and their 1994 debut release, Silver, went quadruple platinum in Canada. As the lead singer of the band, he shot to stardom with his soulful voice and vaguely exotic good looks.
After Moist's multi-platinum follow-up, Creature, was released in 1996, David took some time during the band's hiatus to record his debut solo album, Little Songs, released in 1998. That same year he married photographer and actress Sabrina Reeves, with whom he is still living. Together they have a daughter, Coco, who was born on January 12, 2003.
After recording the album Mercedes 5 and Dime with Moist, he revived his solo career again, releasing the highly successful Morning Orbit in the summer 2001. It contains the hit single "Black Black Heart". In 2003, he released another solo album entitled Hallucinations, which matched the amount of major label albums he had recorded with Moist.
In 2005, he surpassed that number with the release of If God Had Curves. The album had a resemblance to his first solo effort Little Songs, as it is dominantly an acoustic album. This album also featured a collaboration with Tegan Quin, on the track "Hey Kids".
2007 David and family have moved back to Montreal, Canada and David's embarking on a tour in September/October and November 2007.

The Music
David Usher Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Don't be late,
World is ending I can't change the way I feel about you now,
New York is cold as ever,
Bathe in all the pretty things the city brings
The bodies glisten and they shine, like the stars we're born to die, like these roses we all fade..
I'm counting the cars, on the freeway below, lost in the music, all the foolishness of our lives, spinning out of control, lost in the music..in the music
Baby Baby
Please don't cry, wipe the guilt out from your eyes,
leave your conscience on the bed, there's no one innocent here,
In the mirror you'll find faith,
Plastic flowers never fade...we all turn to grey..
I'm counting the cars, on the freeway below, lost in the music, all the foolishness of our lives, spinning out of control, lost in the music...in the music...
I lost my way, I lost it all..
I lost my way..
Baby Baby
Please don't cry, wipe the guilt out from your eyes,
Pick yourself up off the bed, there's no one innocent here,
Bottles glisten'n and they shine,
Like the stars we're born to die,
Like these roses we all fade..
I'm counting the cars, on the freeway below, lost in the music, all the foolishness of our lives, too out of control, lost in the music..
I'm counting the cars, on the freeway below..
Counting the lights, at the end of it all
Counting the cars, on the freeway below..
Lost in the music..
in the music..
in the music..
in the music..
in the music..
in the music..
David Usher’s song, “The Music” is a powerful and poetic representation of love, loss, and the madness of life. The lyrics are melancholic yet hopeful, displaying a sense of vulnerability and determination to overcome whatever obstacles may come. The singer admits that the world is ending, yet he cannot change how he feels about his lover. He goes out every night, immersing himself in the glittering city and all its distractions, seeking refuge in the endless lights and pretty things. He compares the glistening bodies of people to the stars - magnificent but destined to fade away. The metaphor of fading roses is repeated several times, emphasizing the fleetingness of beauty, youth, and love.
The chorus repeats the same line, “I'm counting the cars on the freeway below, lost in the music, all the foolishness of our lives, spinning out of control, lost in the music.” Here, the freeway symbolizes the chaos and madness of the world, the music represents a form of escapism, and the cars illustrate the passing of time. The singer feels lost in a world that is out of control, but the music helps him alleviate his pain and confusion. The song ends with the plea for the lover not to cry and to wipe away the guilt from her eyes. The singer acknowledges that there is no innocence in this world and that everyone is flawed in some way.
Overall, the song is a beautiful, raw, and poignant representation of love, loss, and the human condition. It highlights the delicate balance between beauty and frailty, hope and despair, chaos, and escape.

This song is amazing. The video more so. It shows how i feel on the inside. Hidden behind my faux happiness.
I cant believe that i have been listening to David's amazing voice since 1993!!!
Where have the years gone?!?
@elizabethh3577
I know I feel the same way, remember when 'Push' came out? lol
@mariehansler
Yes, still listen to it regularly ;)

Hmmm You dont have to hate. My comment was my expression. Are you trying to repress all the forward movement we have made in freedom of speech? Why do you feel the need to start a war? If you dont like a comment, ignore it or thumbs down if you must, but to insult and try to belittle...thats just plain immature. I hope you have a wonderful day :)
