I Am
David Versis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Alright
I’m ready

Why does it feel like it’s raining when I know that it is sunny?
I see that everybody is preoccupied with money
Don’t put it to ’em lightly Imma put it to ‘em bluntly
The same dudes who all my fans now all the dudes who used to jump me
And they chill outside the schoolyard tell my teachers they ain’t do it
Blowing up my phone asking me to feature like I’m stupid
But that will never happen you know Imma wear the pants now
Never catch D walking round with his pants down
And Imma keep my pants up, right by my waistline
All I need’s a drum, kick, snare and a bassline
Everytime I spit, people tell me that I’m it
So I’m playing tag with minutes homie all I do is chase time
I wish I could erase time
And bring it back to how it used to be
Before these blood-sucking bastards started using me
They say that all I need’s a new look and some jewelry
But manipulation ain’t nothing new to me
I tell’em

I am, who I am
My own thoughts, my own plans
From a boy, straight to a grown man
And this right here, I built with my own hands
I tell them that my time is now
My time is now
I tell them that my time is now
My time is now

Chilling with my Sherlock Holmeboys, my flow is such a mystery
I am a historian, I’m recording history
Writing all my thoughts down, down to my Papyrus
Iller than the gorilla that gave’em all the virus
I’m just, looking for the string I can pull, I’m Gepetto
I’m a boss, I am working on my staff, Donatello
And they all want me to quiet down
But I’m a fellow, who is still screaming for his one shot, amaretto
So, you can say I’m chilling on the rocks
Yeah my team told me to go and give’em what I got
But, even what I got, that isn’t saying much
Getting phone calls from people who say they wanna stay in touch
But, I don’t stay in touch, that’s just how the tables turn, no DJ
And I ain’t ever do it bid like eBay
But I got bars like a prison and position the city
On my shoulders like broken cars on the freeway

I am, who I am
My own thoughts, my own plans
From a boy, straight to a grown man
And this right here, I built with my own hands
I tell them that my time is now
My time is now
I tell them that my time is now
My time is now

Take a look at what I’m building, take a gander at my drywall
Got the word ‘success’ tattooed on my eyeballs
I guess that it’s my fault, I’m tryina stand out
And make sure everything I dream about’ll pan out
But when I step inside the booth I go and black out
Cause I just speak the truth and these dudes talking bout things they don’t act out
Now what is that bout?
Are you listening?
Or are you too busy emulating and fitting in?
Damn, they hating on me like Christensen
Throwing everything except the thing you put the dishes in
Nah, but I ain’t tryina sink
I am tryina blow past, everything that you may think
I am chilling at the bar, and looking for a drink
Tryina medicate the fact that most these rappers fucking stink
Yeah, before you get a chance to blink
I’m on a van right to the bank, you could say I’m on the Brink

I am, who I am
My own thoughts, my own plans
From a boy, straight to a grown man
And this right here, I built with my own hands
I tell them that my time is now
My time is now

I tell them that my time is now
My time is now

Overall Meaning

The song "I Am" by David Versis is a powerful depiction of the artist's journey and experiences in the music industry. The opening lines discuss the confusion and frustration that arises when others seem to be more focused on material gain than personal happiness, which speaks to the artist's disillusionment with the values of the industry. He then goes on to detail the struggles he has faced, including being bullied and manipulated by those who now try to ride his success. However, despite all of this, Versis asserts his confidence and strength in who he is and what he has built for himself. He describes his talent and unique perspective as a mystery, a history in the making, and emphasizes his determination to succeed even when others doubt him.

Throughout the song, Versis shows a deep connection to his art, describing his writing process and the passion he brings to his music. He also emphasizes his refusal to compromise his values or collaborate with those who do not share his vision. This shows his dedication to his craft and his unwillingness to sacrifice his artistic integrity for the sake of success.

In the end, "I Am" is a powerful anthem for anyone who has faced challenges on their journey to success. Versis emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and persevering through adversity, and inspires listeners to embrace their own unique talents and perspectives in pursuit of their dreams.

A) science doesn’t prove or disprove the idea of a supreme “God” being.

B) nothing so far can “prove” or “disprove” the idea of a supreme “God” being.

C) The thought that “We exist in the perfect and exclusive known parameters for existence, therefore those parameters must have been met by a supreme being” is ignoring so many things. First of all, it’s suspiciously similar to circular reasoning- God must exist (claim) because we exist in such absurd circumstances! (supporting evidence) - Our existence is not supporting evidence for the existence of a “God”. It has equal potential to be unrelated. Secondly, the odds of there being an infinite number of other universes is an extremely easy explanation, and i’ve heard the argument “But the chances of us naturally occurring is [insert tiny %] so it’s illogical to assume that we would occur naturally” and this argument is so annoying because our existence proves that theory equally as correct as it does in proving it was “God” (not at all), but the difference is that our existence does prove that within the parameters of our universe, life is possible, and therefore it doesn’t matter how unlikely it is, because it already happened. Although you may realize that last point doesn’t hold up at all if you believe in “God” because for you “God” created nature and nature created humans. I just wanted to add that in to show how your outlook before approaching information always matters more to you than the actual information, because if you’re a blank slate most of the “proof” wouldn’t be considered proof of anything because it goes both ways.

D) I’ve been writing “*Supreme “God” Being*” and “”*God*”” because it doesn’t matter what god you follow, because any and all proof that proves a supreme being doesn’t say anything about your god’s abstract moral values. many of the Christian God’s morals make sense just from a civilization standpoint and a god decreeing them is redundant and completely separate from the idea of a being creating the universe. If a God exists it does nothing to help prove that your god exists.

A monkey with a typewriter and an infinite amount of time typing will eventually type every idea, book, script, and event that ever happened, in chronological order, but that will take a finite amount of time for it to do, so it doesn’t truly need an infinite amount of time, only as much time as it takes the hypothetical monkey. This can be used in an argument that if it is possible for humans to naturally occur, and the universe will last for a theoretically infinite amount of time, then humans will eventually exist, and they will exist in a finite amount of time.

Very cool video that posits many important questions. As a physics student myself (although I am certainly not an authority in this regard), I am deeply curious about the nature of these topics and have spent plenty of time pondering them. I would like to respond to some of the claims made in the video:

1. It seems to be somewhat of a conjecture to assume what a "non-physical super intellect" would choose to do. Personifying something and assuming its qualities based on what we think is sensible for it is somewhat arrogant on our part.
2. Of the few scientists mentioned in the website (one of which is an engineer), only one is absolute in his belief whilst the other two only hint towards the possibility of a God. While many scientists nod towards a belief or at least a possibility of a god of a deistic nature, very few are religious in the traditional sense (a God that grants miracles/answers prayers). Where God and science do not conflict, any possible belief is trivial beyond explaining the origins of the universe.
3. The fine-tuning argument is an elegant and common one, but it has its holes. To say there would be "no universe as we know it" if a physical constant changed is obvious; our universe is defined by its constants, and would not be the same if they were different. A Darwinian way of looking at the universe could be argued in this regard. Just as one could look at a human body and point towards how perfect it seems in respect to the conditions of the earth, we can do the same of the universe. Doing so, however, is akin to shooting an arrow in a random direction and drawing the bullseye around where it lands after. It is not that the universe is finely tuned for us, it is that we are finely tuned for the universe through natural selection. Of course we do not know of the origins of the universe in a similar manner (as the creator of the video points out very well - god/multiverse theory both take a leap of faith). I'm not sure where the creator found that "most physicists agree that it didn't all happen by chance" as the dialogues I have seen have been somewhat contrary. Those that can even assign a probability must be proponents of multiverse theory, a leap of faith beyond the bounds of current science. The attitudes I have seen (apologizes for the personal anecdote) is that we simply do not know, but we should try and keep working to find out. The beauty of science is admitting what we don't know, and instead of providing answers without backing we work towards getting to them.
4. The google code/DNA argument is of a similar nature to the infamous watchmaker argument. There are many great rebuttals against intelligent design on the internet, so I will ignore that for now. I find it interesting, however, that the creator nods towards believing in evolution only to question it in this regard.
5. Humans becoming intelligent, self-aware life forms is not due to an intelligent creator, but the contingencies within evolution. Asking "what makes more sense" is irrelevant, as what makes sense to us can often be the opposite of what is true. It made sense that the earth was the center of the universe to Ptolemy and that there were four elements to Aristotle.

My issue with this video is that despite doing a good job at pointing out where science and religion do not conflict, it does so with a confirmative bias. As Neil Tyson said, "If that's how you want to invoke your evidence for God, then God is an ever receding pocket of scientific ignorance that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller"

To anyone that read this, thank you for taking the time. I would be happy to continue the discussion :) cheers

@@koikuix I don't see anywhere where he strawmans anything. He just follows Atheism to its logical conclusion. Something 99% of atheist refuse to do because it's impossible to live comfortably with that worldview. The reality is most atheist will make the claim to be atheist but never want to do the work of actually supporting their worldview. When pressed to give evidence most cower and say it's just a lack of belief which is a meaningless statement in it of itself. Either God exist or he doesn't there is no in-between. When you say you lack a belief in God but don't want to take the reality of God's non existence to it's logical conclusion then all you're doing is lying to yourself. This is why atheist who are intellectually honest and well read bite the bullet of Atheism and are honest enough to admit the sobering reality and absurdity of life without God. On Atheism there's

No objective foundation for justifying or knowing

Truth
Logic
Morality
Reason
Meaning

All you are is a bag of flesh on a rock hurling through space that exists for a miniscule amount of time, nothing but a flicker before infinite darkness.

All you're left with are subjective thoughts about what reality or what life is and with no free will of your own all your thoughts and actions are predetermined. Any science or rational you try to cling to is absolutely meaningless. Anyone else can disagree and you'd have no foundation for discerning truth.

You need to face the reality of atheism rather than cower behind the pitiful lies left at your door about this just being a lack of belief. Those who take this topic seriously don't sit on the fence or retreat into a shell, they defend their ideas and face the reality that awaits them.

You can read this comment and scoff or you could do yourself a favor and take a look in the mirror. Face the reality that stands before you honestly. Either God exist or he doesn't. Either there's an objective source for ethics, logic, and truth. Or we're nothing more than bags of flesh with no free will and nothing but delusions about what we think we know when in reality we have as much understanding about our world as the ants on the ground. Any solution you try to posit is simply chemical reactions going off in your head with no foundation grounded in truth.

The comment-section here is trying
to be open-minded and inclusive but just fails at it, tbh.
I can think of a reason for that:
They dont know just how deeply connected Science-Denial and Religion are. They dont know to what delibarate extends many Theists plan to undermine or even destroy Science, causing the Need for Debunk-Channels like Sci Man Dan and Planarwalk to increase more and more.
The people in this comment-section havent seen Professor Daves Video on the
Discovery Institute and havent given the End-Speech about Religion a big, long Think.
I KNOW you all mean it well, BUT you are just under-informed about Anti-Science, Pseudo-Science and how it all connects; and your probably unaware of the insane-fact that... that some fight right now for a Reverse of the Seperation-fo-Church-and-State.

Trust me, i dont want that to be objective reality either, but: Science bites Religion!

@bbernyy64

One bad part of the internet is the over saturation of negative parts in groups.

Algorithms support negative and extreme content, which is also easy to produce about groups.

Examples are the vegan teacher, giving vegans a bad name, while in reality, vegans are (almost always) just as chill as other people.

Same can be seen with furries and many more.

Now, I, unconsciously fell into the same trap about religion without realizing it, and your channel really made me remember that not all people of a certain group are extreme, and hate all who do not exist in this group. (of course, It wasn't that extreme, but it still kinda surprised me a little).

A priest once told me that religion explains what God does and science explains how God does it. I love that explanation because it simply means that religion and science complement each other.

@ArKritz84

That presupposes the existence of a god. It doesn't bother you that this explanation "works" with every mutually exclusive god ever conceived, and then only if you squint hard enough at every scientific field you try to reconcile with your god of choice?

@zulunet3285

Depends on what religion it is, for example the book of Genesis which is followed by Islam and Christianity (I think Judaism?) has a big flaw in it. It says that the Earth and everything is created within 7 days, many religious fanatics just blow this away with "oh it's symbolic we dont know what days actually means" but if you have read Genesis it clearly says ” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. " - 1 Genesis 3:5. Theists immediately jump to the conclusion that its not literal because they know how fucking ridicolous it is.😊
