He is one of the in-house composers at Rare, and his music appears in most of the Rare-developed titles. He started his career at Rare in 1985 and was the company's sole musician up until 1994. He is known for his atmospheric style of music, mixing natural environmental sounds and setting it to a tune.

Undoubtedly his most famous work is the soundtrack for Donkey Kong Country series of games, widely considered to be some of the best soundtracks to ever appear on SNES. Aside of the usual jolly "jungle" themes that fit to Donkey Kong's style in general, these games have a quite wide variety of different musical styles in different areas of the game. More recently, he's done the soundtrack for the Game Boy Advance port of Donkey Kong Country 3, and is working on a mystery Xbox 360 title.

Lots of people complain about the screams, and I will say that the compressed versions sound better, but these are definitely the original screams, same source. If you recompress the restored one, you'll hear something similar to the original.

It's not really the compression (or lack thereof) that's the problem for me. It's the fact that the pitch bends applied to the screams in the original song aren't present here. It just sounds wrong without them.

If this is accurate, then it beautifully demonstrates how Davis Wise composed with the compression in mind, not in spite of it. That scream is horribly mangled by Miller's process.

The scream is definitely different than the compressed song like it's louder? Is the tone higher? I don't know. But it's amazing the difference between the compressed and this HD restored. You really put stuff in perspective when you put the two side by side.

I wonder, are there any details available for that restoration project?
Would love to find out how you guys got to the original samples, even if some like the "Scream" and certain parts sound different.
(Then again I've had lower quality songs sound slightly different as well)

As for the "Scream" I think it's supposed to be a Train Whistle, would make sense with the "Disco Train" name.
Doesn't quite sound like a Firework, but I can kinda see what people mean, and I think it would be kinda odd to have screams.
Unless it was from going down a Rollercoaster, but those would be longer.
Just my thought though.
