In 2018, Davina appeared on the Dutch tv-programme Beste Zangers, where she covered Glen Faria’s “Duurt Te Lang”. The song became a surprise hit, topping the Dutch official Top 40 for eleven consecutive weeks, becoming the female solo artist with the longest-running Number 1 of all time, beating the 21-year-old record set by Céline Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”.
Success continued with the follow-up “Duurt Te Lang” which peaked at #7. The duet “Hoe Het Danst” with Marco Borsato and produced by Armin Van Buuren topped both the Dutch and Belgian national charts. It is currently certified triple-platinum in the Netherlands.
In 2020, in response to COVID-19 pandemic, Davina released the charity single “17 Miljoen Mensen” with Snelle. It is a re-recording of Fluitsma & Van Tijn’s “15 Miljoen Mensen”. It peaked at Number 1 on the Dutch official Top 40, earning Davina her third chart-topper. Later that year, Davina released her debut album My Own World. It debuted and peaked at #4 on the Dutch Album Top 100.
On 18 May 2021, Hoogendoorn performed her new single "Sweet Water" at the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, held in her birth city Rotterdam, as part of an interval act titled "The Power of Water" alongside Dutch actress Thekla Reuten. She also collaborated with Armin van Buuren on “Hold On”. On 5 September 2021, Hoogendoorn performed the Dutch national anthem ahead of the 2021 Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort, the first Formula 1 race to be held in the country since 1985.
Nobody Is Perfect

I used to think I was fat, I
Was shy 'bout my tummy and thighs, why
Do I still hear your words in my mind?
"Shut up, you're beautiful"
In one ear and out the other
Nobody could stop me to bother
"Shut up, you're beautiful"
Oh, if I could speak to the young, blinded me
Oh, I won't talk about the bees and the cherry trees
I would talk about her worth and
Tell her nobody's perfect
Try to shine a light on only what's good, you'll see
Days will get much brighter and you'll wonder why you're thinking
You're so worthless
You see, nobody's perfect
Try to smile a bit, I know it sounds cheesy
But you're the only one of you so love yourself for everything you are
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
"Not words, but deeds" is my motto
All in, all out without sorrow
I cared for only my reflection, oh
I thought I was in control, no
Lost weight, oh, more than a lot, oh
But it never gave me any satisfaction
Oh, if I could speak to the young, stupid me
I would tell her she's to love unconditionally
I would talk about her worth and
Tell her nobody's perfect
Try to shine a light on only what's good, you'll see
Days will get much brighter and you'll wonder why you're thinking
You're so worthless
You see, nobody's perfect
Try to smile a bit, I know it sounds cheesy
But you're the only one of you so love yourself for everything you are
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Oh oh yeah, nobody's perfect
I would talk about her worth and
Tell her nobody's perfect
Try to shine a light on only what's good, you'll see
Days will get much brighter and you'll wonder why you're thinking
You're so worthless
You see, nobody is perfect
Try to smile a bit, I know it sounds cheesy
But you're the only one of you so love yourself for everything you are
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
Ooh whoa whoa, oh oh
The lyrics to Davina Michelle's song "Nobody Is Perfect" delve into themes of self-image, self-acceptance, and self-love. The opening lines reveal the singer's past insecurities and negative self-talk about her body. She references hurtful words that still linger in her mind, but also the contradictory compliments that she couldn't fully embrace. The repetition of "shut up, you're beautiful" highlights the struggle between her inner doubts and the external validation she received.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses a desire to impart wisdom to her younger self. She wishes she could talk to her past self, blinded by insecurities, and emphasize the importance of self-worth. The lyrics encourage embracing imperfections and finding the good within oneself. The phrase "nobody's perfect" acts as a reminder that everyone has flaws and that it's crucial to focus on the positive aspects of one's being. The chorus emphasizes the significance of self-love and the uniqueness of each individual.
Overall, "Nobody Is Perfect" is a powerful anthem promoting self-acceptance and reclaiming self-worth. It encourages listeners to let go of society's standards and judgments and instead embrace their individuality with love and appreciation.
