Success continued with the follow-up βDuurt Te Langβ which peaked at #7. The duet βHoe Het Danstβ with Marco Borsato and produced by Armin Van Buuren topped both the Dutch and Belgian national charts. It is currently certified triple-platinum in the Netherlands.
In 2020, in response to COVID-19 pandemic, Davina released the charity single β17 Miljoen Mensenβ with Snelle. It is a re-recording of Fluitsma & Van Tijnβs β15 Miljoen Mensenβ. It peaked at Number 1 on the Dutch official Top 40, earning Davina her third chart-topper. Later that year, Davina released her debut album My Own World. I need a wake-up shower
Ordinary day
With many final hours
Why do I complain?
Why's too much still not enough?
Oh, rain on me
But most of us get none of it
To those in need of only a little sip
I'd cry a river just for you
So you can feed your children too
If all of us would give a little bit
Why don't we share our sweet, sweet water?
What if the thirsty one was your own son or daughter?
Why don't we care a little longer?
We only worry for a day, then stop to bother
Sweet, sweet water
Why, don't sweet, sweet water
Put me in the rain
Until you see me shiver
Ships are built the same
But the waters differ
I cannot complain
I get everything I need effortlessly, oh
For some it flows, for some it drips
But most of us get none of it
To those in need of only a little sip, woah-oh-oh-oh
I'd cry a river just for you
So you can feed your children too
If all of us would give a little bit, hey
Why don't we share our sweet, sweet water?
What if the thirsty one was your own son or daughter?
Why don't we care a little longer?
We only worry for a day, then stop to bother
Sweet, sweet water
Why, don't, sweet, sweet water
Share your sweet water
Sweet, sweet water
Why, don't, sweet, sweet water
For some it flows, for some it drips
But most of us get none of it
If all of us would share a little bit
The lyrics of Davina Michelle's song "Sweet Water" highlight the significance of water and pose questions about our responsibility to share and care for those in need. The song begins with the singer expressing a desire to be in the rain as a metaphorical wake-up call. It signifies the need for a change in perspective and a realization of the ordinary days that pass by with limited time left. The singer questions why she complains and realizes that even when she has more than enough, it's still not sufficient. The rain becomes a symbol of abundance and the need to be showered with blessings.
The second verse emphasizes the unequal distribution of water resources, where some have access to abundant water flow while others have only small drips or none at all. In the face of this inequality, the singer expresses a willingness to cry a river for those in need, even if it means sacrificing her own comfort. The lyrics emphasize the importance of collective action and small contributions from each individual, stating that if everyone were to give a little, those in need could be helped.
The chorus focuses on the plea to share our "sweet water" and imagine if the thirsty ones were our own children. It questions why our concern tends to fade after a day, highlighting the need for sustained care and attention. The repetition of "sweet, sweet water" throughout the song reflects the preciousness of this resource and our obligation to share and care for it.
Overall, "Sweet Water" serves as a reminder of the importance of sharing and caring for others, specifically those in need of basic necessities like water. It highlights the disparity in access to water resources and encourages listeners to think beyond their own needs and act collectively to make a difference.
