1.Davy Jones (born David Thomas Jones December 30, 1945 in Manchester, England, died February 29, 2012 in Miami, Florida) was an actor and singer, best known as a member of The Monkees.
From 1965 to 1971, Jones was a member of The Monkees, a pop-rock group formed expressly for a television show of the same name. With Screen Gems producing the series, Jones was shortlisted for auditions, as he was the only Monkee who was signed to a deal with the studio, but still had to meet producers Bob Rafelson's and Bert Schneider's standards. As a Monkee, Jones sang lead vocals on many of the group's songs, including "I Wanna Be Free" and "Daydream Believer". Davy met Laramy Smith in 1967, introduced by Eirik Wangberg (then a producer and co-owner of Sound Records). Laramy and Davy co-produced The Children, an Austin Texas group Davy discovered while on tour with the Monkees. A single was released on Laramie Records entitled "Picture Me", which reached Billboard at number 2 with a bullet.
After the Monkees went off the air, the group disbanded. However, Jones continued to perform solo, while later joining with fellow Monkee Micky Dolenz and songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart as a short-lived group called Dolenz, Jones, Boyce & Hart. He has also toured throughout the years with other members as various incarnations of the Monkees.
Jones died in his sleep on February 29, 2012 at his home in Miami, Florida. He was 66.
2.Davy Jones is also David Bowie's (born January 8, 1947) real name; Following releases as Davie Jones with The King Bees and The Manish Boys Bowie recorded as Davy Jones briefly in 1965 before changing his name, the only release under this name being "You've Got A Habit Of Leaving" b/w "Baby Loves That Way" with his band The Lower Third (alongside with a number of unreleased demos, solo and with band). This was followed by "Can't Help Thinking About Me" as David Bowie with The Lower Third.
4. Davy Jones is a character in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He plays the organ.
Girl
Davy Jones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And everyone thinks that I married Marcia Brady
Moved to Ohio and had six kids but
It didn't happen that way
Girl, look what you've done to me
Me and my whole world
Girl, you brought the sun to me
I'm telling you girl, something unknown to me
Makes you what you are
And what you are is all that I want for me
And it's good to feel that way girl
Thank you girl, for making the nighttime nicer
Girl, for making the daytime brighter
Girl, for making a better world for me
I'm telling you girl, something unknown to me
Makes you what you are
And what you are is all that I want for me
And it's good to feel that way girl
Thank you girl, for making the nighttime nicer
Girl, for making the daytime brighter
Girl, for making a better world for me
Thank you girl, for making the winter warmer
Girl, for making the music softer
Girl, for making a better world for me
Thank you girl (thanks everybody, lovely to see you)
The lyrics of this song convey a sense of gratitude towards a girl who has had a significant impact on the singer's life. The first verse mentions an episode of the popular TV show 'The Brady Bunch' which the singer appeared on and how people have this untrue belief that he married Marcia Brady and moved to Ohio. This could be interpreted as a way of saying that people have preconceived notions about famous people, and the singer is trying to set the record straight.
The chorus and subsequent verses then dive into how this girl has brought sunshine into the singer's life with her smile, making the nighttime nicer and the daytime brighter, as well as making the music softer and overall creating a better world for the singer. It seems that this girl has completely transformed the singer's life, and he is forever grateful for that. The lyrics also hint towards the idea that there is something unknown or intangible about this girl that makes her so special, which further emphasizes her impact on the singer's life.
As for the track itself, it is a smooth and upbeat love song that features Davy Jones' iconic vocals. The song was released in 1981 and was a hit in the UK, US, and Canada. It was co-written by Davy Jones and David Bowie, who had a good friendship and collaborated a few times throughout their careers. In fact, Bowie was the one who encouraged Jones to pursue a solo career in music.
