In 1988, an Ottawa, Ontario police officer instigated a criminal investigation of the Dayglos after his daughter brought home a copy of Here Today, Guano Tomorrow.
Two albums featured in the resulting trial; the covers and the lyrical content being showcased by the prosecution. Here Today, Guano Tomorrow had a cover showing a picture of a hamster eating from a box of chocolates on nice satin sheets, along with a glass of wine. A gun points at the hamster, and the back cover shows a depiction of the resulting carnage.
The previous album, Feed Us A Fetus, was perhaps a little less graphic, with a depiction of a baked fetus on the table in front of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
This resulted in the criminal prosecution of Fringe Product, their label at the time, for distribution and possession with intent to distribute of obscene material—the first such prosecution since the offense entered the criminal code in 1959. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
The Dayglos had musical revenge in the title song of their next album, Two Dogs Fucking, in which the priggishness of Ottawa's public officials leads directly to the extinction of the human race.
On occasion, Dayglo albums having included political aspects, Holy Shiite is no exception with song titles such as "America Eats Her Young", "Christina Bin Laden", "Scientology", and "Where's Bin Laden?".
My Girl
Dayglo Abortions Lyrics

She's got a few fleas and a touch of the mange
On fact she's so oh oh oh oh so god damn ugly
Oh my girl she's got a big sticky tongue
Four hairy legs and a big smelly cunt
Her name is oh oh oh oh Lassie
The Dayglo Abortions's song My Girl is a sarcastic take on how people judge someone's worth based on their physical appearance. The first line "Oh my girl she's a bit homely" sets the tone of the song. The singer introduces his girl as "homely" which means plain or unattractive. This description is followed by "She's got a few fleas and a touch of the mange", which is implying that she could be an unsanitary person or someone who lives on the streets. Despite all of this, the singer finds her to be beautiful in his own way. He sarcastically declares that she is "so god damn ugly" to emphasize the fact that he sees beyond her flaws.
The next lines of the song are even more ironic. The singer describes his girl as having "a big sticky tongue, four hairy legs, and a big smelly cunt". This description sounds like he is describing an animal but in reality, he is still talking about his girl. In the last line of the song, he reveals her name to be "Lassie", which is a reference to a popular TV show from the 1950s about a heroic dog. The reference to Lassie is ironic because it portrays the girl as a loyal companion despite being referred to in such unflattering terms. The Dayglo Abortions are known for their sarcastic and satirical lyrics, and "My Girl" is no exception.
