Before the group had a full line up, Martinez was contacted by phone by Sumerian Records. Former ex band member of Covette, Jordan Wooley (bass), had joined the duo Summer 2012. The band released a video titled 'The Beginning' discussing how the band first formed.
Tyler Shippy (guitar) was welcomed into the band on February 27, 2014. however, the band announced the departures of Shippy in February 2015 and Martinez in July 2015 on Facebook citing personal and creative differences.
On July 5, 2016 the band left Sumerian Records and signed to Spinefarm Records to release their second album, Nexus, which was released on October 7, 2016. This news was followed by the first single from the album, "Carsick", along with the announcement that Zack Baker was the new drummer replacing Martinez.
Zack Baker left the band in 2018, and went on to tour with the post-hardcore outfit Slaves before becoming a permanent member of the band. Tyler Shippy returned to the band as bassist.
Their debut self-titled was released on October 15, 2013. The band's second album, Nexus, was released on October 7, 2016. The band released their third album called Mr. Pain on October 29, 2019.
Not Coming In
Dayshell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of all of you is getting older
Did you really think that you can speak
Like all of this is fucking fine
I want you to leave
I've heard it before
And you're not coming in
I've heard you before
Excuse me while I resurrect this cigarette
This isn't over
No
To my surprise well suited lies
They slowly leak right through your teeth
I want you to leave
I've heard it before
And you're not coming in
No
I've heard you before
I've heard you before
Sounds like you're onto something here
I guess you got it all figured out
My patience is over 1 2 many times
Are you fucking with me?
Are you fucking with me?
I want you to leave
I've heard it before
And you're not coming in
No
I want you to leave
I've heard you before
You're not coming in
No
The lyrics of Dayshell's song "Not Coming In" express a sense of frustration and disappointment with someone who is not being honest and sincere. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer notices the physical changes that come with age and the passing of time. He calls out the other person for not acknowledging their problems or concerns and pretending that everything is fine.
The chorus, with its repeated line of "I want you to leave, I've heard it before, and you're not coming in," suggests that the other person is not welcome in the singer's life or inner circle anymore. The verses continue to build on this theme, as the singer talks about the other person's lies and lack of commitment. He even asks if they are "fucking with me," indicating a sense of betrayal and hurt.
