Digital Dream
De/Vision Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Put some soul in my machine
Machines do not dream
Feed your dreams in my machine
Feed your dreams in my machine
Dirty and obscene
Unwrap all your beauty and love
Put some life in my machine
Put some life in my machine
Machines do not feel
Fill the world in my machine
Fill the world in my machine
Tried to keep it clean
The lyrics to De/Vision's song "Digital Dream" seem to speak of a longing for more humanity in technology. The repeated refrain of "put some soul in my machine" and "put some life in my machine" suggests a desire for technology to have more emotion and vitality. The line "machines do not dream" seems to acknowledge the fact that technology does not possess the ability to imagine or have aspirations, and the phrase "feed your dreams in my machine" could be interpreted as a plea to infuse technology with the creativity and imagination of human dreaming.
The line "dirty and obscene" suggests a possible fear or apprehension about the role technology can play in society. While there is a desire for more humanity in machines, there is also a recognition that technology can be used for immoral and unethical purposes.
The line "unwrap all your beauty and love" seems to suggest that the key to infusing technology with more soul and life is to embrace and express the positive aspects of humanity. The final line "tried to keep it clean" could either refer to a desire to maintain a pure and ethical use of technology, or it could suggest a frustration with the limitations of current technology to fully capture and express human emotion.

I love DM as well as DV. Just so annoyed to see how some people compare the two them or any other artist to one another. Every artist we love and their music do change from time to time. Doesn't mean their music become better or worse, maybe it's just different or inspired by some other artists they like but we don't? When we say we love music, we got to be open-minded to all sorts of music and artist. Just listen to what and who we like and ignore ones we don't. As simple as that.

Trust me, no one's gonna mistake De/vision for Depeche Mode or anyone else. DM's great, but there were 'moody synth' bands before they went that route (Psyche, anyone?).
