#1: Dead is a death metal/grindcore band formed in Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany in early May 1990 by Uwe (b/v), Dany (g/v) & Peter (d/v). Main target at that time was playing Gore/Grind/Death in its rawest form ala good old (!) Carcass, Pungent Stench, etc. But lyrically it was totally replaced after the release of the 2nd 7”ep “Slaves to abysmal perversity” by the nowadays well-known dirty humor.. DEAD split up on 22nd May 1998 - on their last gig at the “FTC II” – Festival. Without any promotion, DEAD was invited for one single surprise-gig in their hometown Nuremberg in winter 2001 ( see “Saturdaynight Grind Fever 2001” ep). 3 years later DEAD was reformed for an invitation in Japan by Obliteration Rec. to do a mini tour in October 2004.

After this happening the rumor was spread that DEAD would be back again, of course. Many offers for live gigs in 2005 followed, but Peter didn’t want to play for the band anymore as he (still) had besides other bands that he liked more to join. The result of this decision was that Christoph (also drummer of Maggot Shoes) had been quickly implemented in the band as a firm member to keep DEAD and its tradition alive...

#2: The remainder of the band the Grateful Dead now tour as simply the Dead in respect to Jerry Garcia, who died late in 1995. Since then, whenever the rest of the band goes on tour they are simply 'The Dead.'

#3: International depressive black metal / ambient band formed in 2008 as a side-project by three different bands; All the Cold (Rus), Black Hate (Mex) and Fornicatus (Fin). With lyrical themes surrounding pain, failure and solitude the band released a demo called "Hanging Illusions" on tape in 2009.
B.G. and J. are from Mexico, Morbid and Deimos are from Finland, and Nordsjel and Winter are from Russia.

#4: American minimal ambient producer (sometimes referred to as is...dead)

#5 A classic old school death metal band formed in 1984 from Florida. Had strong ties with Amon, Executioner, Brutality and Morbid Angel.

I have struggled with the bass part of this song on Rocksmith for a couple of years now and I'm not exactly a beginner on the instrument. Phil wrote some incredible basslines. The bassline on Casey Jones is a LOT of fun to play! It has a bouncy feel to it. It jumps around with the tonic & fifth a lot, but manages to always be interesting. One of the greatest, most timeless songs ever written. I've heard it a zillion times and I still never get bored with it. And from a band with with so many well crafted songs.
Garcia and Hunter deserve more credit as songwriters. Just think of it: Bird Song, Wharf Rat, Dire Wolf, Terrapin Station, China Cat Sunflower, Mountains of the Moon, Mississippi Half Step, China Doll, Ripple, Crazy Fingers, Cumberland Blues, He's Gone, Ramble On Rose, Brown Eyed Women, Loser, Sugaree, Dark Star, Deal, Bertha, New Speedway Boogie, St. Stephen, Franklins Tower, Eyes of The World, US Blues, Fire On The Mountain, Uncle John's Band, Scarlet Begonias, The Wheel, Tennessee Jed, Casey Jones, High Time, Row Jimmy, Broke Down Palace, Shakedown Street.... Jesus, I could go on and on... all these are are incredible, well written songs that have a timeless feel to them . And I didn't even touch on the 80's or 90's material... then you have Weir and Barlow's many great contributions, which is another post in itself! Lol.
Just seems the Dead don't get props as great songwriters. Let's put it this way, Robert Hunter is one of the very few that Dylan called to collaborate on songs and help with lyrics. That's saying something, imo.

I had to search the lyrics of this song to find it. My dad would always listen to it on the road when we were on a roadtrip and having a good time. Two ushers helped me cross the barrier to First Aid where I cooled down, got some water, and in total surprise watched as Jerry rode in on a golf cart to his backstage entrance! Once I'd cooled down, I had to re-enter the sea of fans in search of my friends. I'll never forget how, "Friend of The Devil" played as I weaved my way toward the stage saying, "That's me! I'm Annemarie!" ...and in no time at all, I found my friends again.

I love when Phil Lesh's bass part come into the song at :13. It cuts into the mix like a hot knife. The TONE of that bass is just unbelievable, and the way it just rhythmically flows with the guitar part. It's best appreciated on a pair of high-quality headphones....and WEED.

I miss Jerry. I was at the last concert in Chicago in '95 and the Band was the backup & it really was a reality hit in the head, seeing Jerry and he was so sick then. RIP Jerry, always missed & Never Forgotten.

i always look at it the opposite way - as far as music goes, i'm glad to be alive right now because it means i have years of great music to look back on; it's less that we missed out on something amazing, and more that we get a huge variety of each decade's "something amazing"s to hear today. plus, it's easier to find cool stuff now than it ever has been. the downside is that a lot of these artists aren't currently making music or touring, though.

Me and my cousins were staying in a tower house in Ireland, sitting around in the Great Hall, singing the night away on songs like this while the fire burnt itself down to coals and the rain rocked the ancient walls. It was one of the most wonderful moments of my life, and I don't intend to ever forget it.

man- its funny that both getting stoned and Grateful dead go hand in hand. this was my first album growing up from my fathers collection- he gifted me amazing music at the young age of six. copied a tape for me and told me to enjoy :) then i got high and listened to it about ten years later... its still just as good as it was coming out of that walk- man- Thanks pop!

I got introduced to this band by a movie "the music never stopped" or something like that and I'm so grateful I went to search for the band after watching the movie. My Cousin was a big dead head back in the day, me I was more into Led Zeppelin, The Who etc. One summer he dragged me around the country smoking, drinking, etc. One outdoor concert I will never forget. Got sunburned really bad but I didn't fell it for at least a day or two. They had porta johns lining the back of the field and had to take a dump so I want into one and as I stepped in I could feel stuff squishing between my toes and like the sunburn I didn't care. After I just want back to the blanket to finish off the 5th of southern comfort and .5 bag I was drinking/smoking in 95 degree heat. Those were the days!

This song was on the 1st dead cassette I ever had..in 83 I had Skelton In the Closet... right around the time I was into Led Zep...During that time I had gone to several concerts 1983-1986 but it wasn't until the dead show in 89 that I felt 100% comfortable at a show...Black guy at Slayer sux..black guy at Dead..freakin celebrity..oh it rocked!!!!!
