It's worth it
These little pieces I can't seem to align
I need change
And I just don't feel I was born to walk in a line
I've been waiting to take my chances
I can't live for the lie
I'll keep chasing
The faster that we go 'round
The tighter I'm holding
I know that we fall down
You and I are the same thing
Simple yet we complicate the design
It's working but I just feel there's a faster way to arrive
I can taste it
And I want answers
I can't live for the lie
I'll keep chasing
'Cause I can feel something's gonna change
The faster that we go 'round
The tighter I'm holding
I know that we fall down
Part of me is still silently hoping
Hold on, soon we'll be gone
You will follow me one day
In time, our time
Are you ever big enough?
Is it easier in time?
Turn the page and hurry up
Should I lead or stay in line?
Is it all for the reward?
Will it really be alright?
Please don't leave me behind Hold on, soon we'll be gone
You will follow me one day
In time, when we divide And you walk further than me
Somehow I feel that the one last piece will align
(I can feel) something's gonna change
(I can feel) something's gonna change
The lyrics to Dead Letter Circus's song "Big" have an intense and insightful tone that encourages listeners to explore their own feelings of restlessness and desire for change. The song begins with an admission that the singer is struggling to align the pieces of their life, but they are determined to make a change. They feel that they were not meant to walk in a straight line and yearn for something more in their life. The chorus is repeated throughout the song, with the singer proclaiming that they can feel something is going to change and that they will keep chasing until they achieve their goals. The second verse adds layers of complexity, with the singer questioning whether it's worth it to chase after rewards and whether they should lead or follow in life. The song concludes on a hopeful note, with the singer anticipating that someday they will align all the pieces of their life and reach their goals.
One interesting fact about "Big" is that it was the lead single for Dead Letter Circus's third studio album Aesthesis, released in 2015. The album received critical praise and was well-received by fans, with "Big" being one of the most popular tracks. Another interesting fact is that Dead Letter Circus is an Australian band that formed in Brisbane in 2004. They have a dedicated fan base in Australia and have also gained a following in the United States and Europe, playing sold-out shows in several countries.
In addition, the band's name is a reference to a poem by Brazilian author Hilda Hilst, and they are known for their introspective and thoughtful lyrics. Lead singer Kim Benzie has spoken openly about his struggles with anxiety and depression, and his experiences have influenced many of the band's songs. "Big" is a prime example of the band's introspective style, with lyrics that invite listeners to reflect on their own lives and aspirations.
Regarding the chords, "Big" is played in standard tuning and begins with a simple chord progression of D-G-D, followed by D-F#m-Bm-G. The song is based mostly around these four chords, with occasional breaks for the chorus and bridge sections.
Overall, "Big" is a powerful and introspective song about the struggle to find meaning and purpose in life, and the determination to keep striving until one achieves their goals. Its lyrics encourage listeners to reflect on their own lives and experiences, making it a favorite among Dead Letter Circus fans around the world.
