Influences of the band cover a wide genre of music; however some of their main influences include Radiohead, Joy Division, Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley, Sonic Youth, The Pixies, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Galaxie 500, Movietone, Muse, The Cure and much more.
Formed in the summer of 2004, they found their current line-up early in 2005. Within recent months they have been writing and performing increasingly better and more forward thinking music, and the band has been going from strength to strength.
Throughout 2006 the band spent time gigging relentlessly at venues all over the Midlands area, and during that time provided the band with the chance to support Howling Bells twice, the 1990s and the Tiny Dancers and play at ‘Oxjam Festival’ in London.
The band have also been featured three times on BBC Hereford and Worcester’s ‘The Friday Session’, several times on online radio stations in the ‘Monochrome Museum Global Network’, and on MTV ‘Ones to Watch’ (which was shown repeatedly throughout April and May on MTV2).
In recent months the band have been recording their debut album ‘Complications’) with their humble and very portable home studio equipment; the band finally released the album on Friday 13th April.
Dead Letter Office are currently working on writing and recording their second album. This is due to be finished Autumn 2009.

And no-one here's gonna tell you how to win.
Read the book, seen the script, completely vacant.
It's hard to stay alive when you don't know how to live.
And I guess it matters to me.
Hey, don't have faith man it'll damage your heart.
Hey, You're not alone kid, you're part of me.
In the town where you can't get enough to make it,
It's been so many years since we last saw sparks.
If your ship don't come in swim out to catch it,
Even if the water looks a little dark.
And I guess it matters to me.
Hey, don't have faith man it'll damage your heart.
Hey, You're not alone kid, you're part of me.
A celebrated scholar with nothing new to say,
You don't matter, you're just in the way.
The politics and dirty tricks they played behind your back.
No second chances, no trying again.
You didn't stay for long but you made sure to leave your mark.
We don't speak no more. We've grown so far apart.
And I need some solid ground to stand on, I need somewhere to call home,
I could try double but you're nothing on your own.
No-one's nothing on their own.
We might as well be poles apart
In Dead Letter Office's song, "Poles Apart", the lyrics tell the story of the struggles of an individual who is facing hardships and difficulties that seem insurmountable. The odds are stacked against them, and they feel completely lost, unaware of how to find a way out. The individual has read books and seen scripts, but they feel completely vacant, unsure of how to navigate the complexities of life, leading to a feeling of being unable to live.
However, something inside them compels them to continue, and they believe that it matters to them, even if it seems like everyone and everything around them is telling them to give up and abandon any hope. The song's chorus is a plea to the individual to not have faith in anything or anyone because it may lead to heartbreak, but they are not alone, as everyone struggles in their own way. They are part of the human experience and a community that shares their struggles and their triumphs.
The second verse of the song speaks of the individual's hometown, where it seems impossible to advance, and nothing seems to happen. Despite the stagnation, the song encourages the individual to keep going and to seize opportunities, even if they appear in a less flattering light. The song's message is that every individual counts, and we should never give up on ourselves and keep trying, even in the face of great adversity.
Overall, "Poles Apart" is a song of hope for those who feel lost and alone, a reminder that they are not alone and that there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
