It's Ok
Dead Moon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Chorus:]
It's okay, we've all seen better days
It's okay, you don't have to run and hide away
It's okay
It's okay, yeah we love you anyway

For in those reckless moments
When doubt is creeping in your head
Feeling like you've lost your youth
And the dreams you had are cold and dead
I can't reach you anymore
That's gonna take a different man
I can't protect you like before
You've slipped beyond my hands
But it's okay.......

I wish that I could light the path
That leads to a life of no mistakes
Hold you from the damned be done
That living out of safety seems to take
I remember still the child in you
As if only yesterday
It was easy to break through
I only had to kiss the pain
But it's okay.......

This is my chance, this is my life
And my opening hour
This is my choice, this is my voice
There may be no tomorrow
This is my plea, this is my need
This is my time for standing free
This is my step, this is my depth

In a world demanding of me
But is's okay.......

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dead Moon's song "It's OK" convey a sentiment of empathy and encouragement. The chorus reassures that it is okay to have bad days and make mistakes, and that there is no need to hide away or feel ashamed. The verse speaks of moments of doubt and despair, when it feels like one has lost their youth and dreams, and a sense of helplessness when trying to protect someone who has slipped beyond reach. The singer wishes they could prevent their loved one from making mistakes and experiencing pain, but ultimately acknowledges that it is okay to make those mistakes and take risks. The final verse encourages the listener to take control of their life, to speak up for themselves, and to live boldly because there may not be a tomorrow.

The song's message resonates with anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by life's challenges or experienced feelings of self-doubt. It reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles and that it's important to extend compassion to ourselves and others. The lyrics are delivered with a raw, emotive quality that underscores the sincerity of the sentiment.

RIP Tami. I will always think of you when I hear this. You were a free spirit, a real one.

Some people tear up over soppy love or sad songs, but this one gets me every time. Had the pleasure of sharing a stage with them a few times and fell in love at first bite. They interviewed Toody on our national (NZ) radio this morning and was delighted to hear her laugh again.

@arenaleiterint1448

I was named after Toody because my parents like the band, they were also very sad, when Andrew and Fred died. And learnt to love their music because of my parents. I'm kinda proud to be called 'Toody'.

Lucky you

@wolfshade7169

I'm proud for you too bud!

@edhelvey

That's an even cooler anecdote than my friends naming their daughter "Scout" after Addicus Finch's daughter in "To Kill A Mockingbird".

@jamessievert350

You should be. I lived in Portland for a long while when I was younger. Andrew rented me a room in his apartment. I was good friends with two of his brothers. Unfortunately they are all gone. I live in N.Y.C. now but occasionally I'll see a Dead Moon t-shirt and I've gotta talk to the person. 😆🌉🌿👌🗽🤣

@heathcornbeef

I've meet them many times here in Aotearoa new Zealand very nice people and a F..KING GREAT BAND @@jamessievert350
