Deadsy was formed in 1995 by Elijah Blue Allman, the son of Cher and Greg Allman. Using the stage name Philips Exeter Blue I he recorded some demos with Alec Puro and later sent a Roland Juno-106 keyboard to Renn as an invitation to join the band. Deadsy signed to Sire Records, recruiting Jay Gordon of the band Orgy, to play bass their eponymous debut album. After the album was recorded and released to the press Gordon was replaced by Craig Riker joined on bass as a full time member, and they were once again writing songs for the upcoming full length Commencement. Only a few songs were written for the new album as the band had planned to re-release most tracks from the self-titled album. A music video for "She Likes Big Words" was made at one of their early shows, also for promotion. With the album in the final stages of development, Sire parted ways with Elektra Records, and the release was pushed back to a later date. Soon after, Deadsy was dropped from the label entirely, ending the life of both the first and would-be second album, Commencement. Some promotional copies of the self-titled album are still floating around.
Elementree Records, The Release of Commencement (1999-2003)---
While in the process of finding a new label, Carlton Bost was added on z-tars and guitar. Ashburn Miller replaced Craig on bass January 2002 after Craig and Deadsy parted ways. Jonathan Davis (of the band Korn) signed Deadsy to the new record label Elementree Records, to release Commencement. Most songs came from the self-titled album, but some were newly written for the album, including "The Key To Gramercy Park", for which a video was made, directed by friend and Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, as well as being the band's second song with Jonathan Davis. Davis invited the band to join the 2001 Family Values Tour before their album had even been released. This move helped build the fan base and helped the band onto the tour soundtrack. After the album's release, the band made a second music video for their cover of Sebadoh's "Brand New Love".
The Release of Phantasmagore, Current (2003-2008)
Deadsy signed onto Immortal Records to release Phantasmagore in 2006 . During the 4-year process of writing the album, Deadsy released clips and demos on their official website. Deadsy was asked back to the Family Values Tour in the summer of 2006, which was co-headlined by the Deftones and Korn. Deadsy went on another tour with the Deftones in the fall/winter. In January 2007, Deadsy parted ways with bassist Ashburn Miller ("Creature"), and added Jens Funke to the line up.
In February 2007, a short statement from Elijah was posted on the band's message board: "I am making a solo record." Recently, Carlton has joined The Dreaming full time. On April 16, 2007, a MySpace bulletin was posted with a statement by Alec Pure whom had this to say: "As you all know we are going to be taking a short break from Deadsy so Elijah can make a solo record and I can continue scoring projects I wasn't able to do from the road."
In early 2008, "Elijah Blue and the Trapezoids" was revealed as the name of Elijah's solo project.
Musical Style and Themes
Elijah describes the band's low and dissonant style as Undercore. Elijah's low baritone singing style, down-tuned guitars, Dr. Nner's synths and Carlton's Z-tar form the overall sound of the band.
"We wanted to make something that was transcendental, really rule-defying, and very against the grain. And when people listened to it at first, it would just feel very like a sense of foreignness, almost like watching a David Lynch film." - Elijah Blue
The lyrics and imagery of the songs sometimes focus on many subjects in either sexual, religious, magical or popular culture contexts. Occasionally one notices obscure references to artifacts such as Secret Societies, The Urantia Book, Star Wars, the novel Dune by Frank Herbert, Disney's 101 Dalmatians and themes like wealth, esoterica, and pedophilia.
Visual appearance
Elijah has often called the band an "art project", or "art movement". Complete with a manifesto (available on their site), and visual iconography. Each band member represents one element or "Entity" that drives human society. Each entity is also represented by their own color and unique appearance.

Deadsy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For the day
The life we live
And you stepping away
Suppose a useless soul depraves
But now suppose
The truth's beyond the grave
So all and all
We laugh the same tears
Of how we met upon the river Thames pier
Two hearts of gold just for the while
Two bards who stroll the endless mile
To tame the world again
Let us keep resisting the end
Defame your world, pretend
Let us keep existing
So look up the night
And follow the sky
As I realise the sign
Where the two points collide
We'll be safer on the line
As the heavens decline
Space for the time
Now let the planets align
Come dear, it's safe
We'll pass the plane
So now this sort of lives
The chance to change
Remember when we sailed along the Nile?
Back then you turned your head
Gave me that smile
But through persistence you have tried
And now we've passed the nevers nationwide
Only all because you stayed
Till Pancassandra leads the way
And Summer winds the leaves will change
We'll grow potatoes, pass the days
And if you feel precocious, love belay
Seem the same
Begin to sift
Signal the change
Here lies the gift
I feel the rays
As I start to drift
Drift away
Only all because you stayed
When all the notes we passed you saved
No chance, supposed and rearranged
And through the night time I'll be staying
But now it's gone forever, turn the page
To tame the world again
Let us keep resisting the end
Defame the world, pretend
Let us keep existing
To tame the world again
Let us keep resisting the end
To shame the world, pretend
Let us keep existing
The lyrics of Deadsy's "Seagulls" are quite complex but one can interpret them in different ways. The song starts with the idea of pretending love for a day to make the most of the life one lives. In the next few lines, the lyrics shift towards the concept of useless souls being deprived, and the assumption that the truth is beyond the grave. These lines could indicate that whatever one does in life, there will always be negative consequences or that the real meaning of life will only be known after death.
The chorus of the song repeats the theme of laughing and crying the same tears, highlighting the idea of acceptance regardless of circumstances. The lyrics then progress towards the idea of celestial bodies aligning, and the need to look up the sky and follow the signs as a means of being safe amidst chaos. The reference to passing the plane could mean leaving behind the physical world and entering a more spiritual realm.
The song ends with the reminder that the only reason the singers were able to achieve anything was that one of them stayed, saving all the notes they passed. The lyrics continue to push the theme of resisting the end by defaming or shaming the world, ultimately ending with the idea of continuing to exist. Overall, the lyrics seem to inspire a sense of hope, perseverance, and acceptance in the face of a changing world that one cannot fully control.

Let us pretend love
Let's imagine that love exists
For the day
In this moment
The life we live
The existence we experience
And you stepping away
When you depart from me

Imagine a soul that lacks purpose
But now suppose
However, consider this
The truth's beyond the grave
The answer lies in death
So all and all
Overall
We laugh the same tears
We share the same sorrow

Remembering the moment we met by the Thames
Two hearts of gold just for the while
Our hearts were pure for a fleeting moment
Two bards who stroll the endless mile
Two poets who wander without end
Let us keep resisting the end
Let us continue to fight against the end
Defame your world, pretend
Diminish the importance of your world, imagine
Let us keep existing
Let us continue to exist
So look up the night
Gaze at the nighttime sky

Back then you looked away
Gave me that smile
Smiled at me

But through persistence you have attempted
And now we've passed the nevers nationwide
And now we've overcome the obstacles everywhere
Only all because you stayed
It's only because you remained
Till Pancassandra leads the way
Until Pancassandra shows us the path
And Summer winds the leaves will change
And when summertime comes, the leaves will metamorphose
We'll grow potatoes, pass the days
We'll cultivate potatoes, spend the days idly
And if you feel precocious, love belay
And if you feel flirtatious, delay love
Seem the same

Begin to sift
Start to separate
Signal the change

Here lies the gift
Here is the present
I feel the rays
I sense the light

Only all because you stayed
It's only because you remained
When all the notes we passed you saved
When you saved all the messages we wrote
No chance, supposed and rearranged
No possibility, imagined and changed
And through the night time I'll be staying
And I'll be staying awake through the night
But now it's gone forever, turn the page
But now it's gone forever, move on
To shame the world, pretend
To diminish the world, imagine
