Deakin met Anima… Read Full Bio ↴Deakin (born Josh Dibb) is a psychedelic pop musician.
Deakin met Animal Collective's Avey Tare (Dave Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) and Geologist (Brian Weitz) in high school. For years, the four of them had swapped homemade recordings, shared musical ideas and performed in different group configurations.
After high school Panda Bear and Deakin went to Boston, where Deakin attended Brandeis University. Avey Tare and Geologist moved to New York City to attend NYU and Columbia University respectively when they were finished with high school. After months of playing the band finally settled on the name "Animal Collective". After touring with the group from 2004 to the end of 2006 and recording two albums, Feels and Strawberry Jam, he decided to temporarily leave the group for various creative and personal reasons.
In 2009, Deakin did remixes for songs Zero by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Mirando by Ratatat.
On New Years Day 2010 he performed his first set of solo material at the Ottobar in Baltimore
After years of recording, Deakin released his first solo album "Sleep Cycle" on April 6, 2016.

Country Report
Deakin Lyrics

As we slip through the waves
Feel space
Silver walls on each side
Leading up and above
Down
I am down
I can follow this tide
I know
Water bends at the light
Touching down
I've arrived
I know
I've got to come up
I don't have to come up
I'm not fading at all
But our words feel gray
I can try and get strong if you're feeling this shy
'Cause the end of the day gathers cold towards our home
My strength drifts in tides,
'Cause I'm feeling your pain
Like it's my own
And you're always complaining
He's getting old
I'm not fading at all
And I see how I've changed
I'm not always as wise as I thought at times
Seems I'm not so strong with a hand to my side
As she asks to my face, "Is it really a change if you're not sure?"
Can you really engage when you're not sure?
And maybe you've changed
It gets you home
Deakin's song "Country Report" begins with imagery of a ship slipping through waves, with silver walls on each side leading up and above. He feels down below the surge and follows the tide, knowing that water bends at the light. He touches down and arrives, but he knows that he has to come up eventually. The second verse discusses the challenges of communication, with their words feeling gray and the end of the day gathering cold towards their home. Deakin's strength drifts in tides as he feels the pain of others, and he sees how he's changed and isn't always wise. The song ends with questioning whether you can really engage when you're not sure, and wondering if maybe you've changed and it gets you home.
