Deakin met Anima… Read Full Bio ↴Deakin (born Josh Dibb) is a psychedelic pop musician.
Deakin met Animal Collective's Avey Tare (Dave Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) and Geologist (Brian Weitz) in high school. For years, the four of them had swapped homemade recordings, shared musical ideas and performed in different group configurations.
After high school Panda Bear and Deakin went to Boston, where Deakin attended Brandeis University. Avey Tare and Geologist moved to New York City to attend NYU and Columbia University respectively when they were finished with high school. After months of playing the band finally settled on the name "Animal Collective". After touring with the group from 2004 to the end of 2006 and recording two albums, Feels and Strawberry Jam, he decided to temporarily leave the group for various creative and personal reasons.
In 2009, Deakin did remixes for songs Zero by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Mirando by Ratatat.
On New Years Day 2010 he performed his first set of solo material at the Ottobar in Baltimore
After years of recording, Deakin released his first solo album "Sleep Cycle" on April 6, 2016.

SEED SONG
Deakin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There is something happening
You and I both can
Grow together
Seeds in our hands
We can always grow together
Seeds can get old and tired from the opening
Then when I handle water
The plants get old, they're always there
Leave seeds out there
You can always leave seeds out there
Leaving all
Grab justice where you are
You can always leave seeds
And when you′re open out there
You can always grow
In the first verse, the lyrics convey the idea that being open to new experiences and possibilities allows for growth and transformation. The phrase "when you're open, there is something happening" suggests that being receptive and willing to explore leads to new opportunities and changes. The line "you and I both can grow together" emphasizes that growth is not an individual journey but rather a shared experience. It implies that personal development can be enhanced when we embrace connection and collaboration with others.
The second verse introduces the metaphor of seeds, symbolizing potential and the power to create. The imagery of holding seeds in our hands implies that we have the ability to nurture and cultivate our own growth. However, it also acknowledges that seeds can become exhausted and weary from the constant process of opening up and sprouting. This can be interpreted metaphorically as an acknowledgment that personal growth can be tiring and challenging, but it is still possible with our determination and effort.
The third verse seems to suggest that taking care of oneself is beneficial not only for personal growth but also for the well-being of the world around us. The mention of handling water signifies nurturing and caring for the plants. When we provide the plants with water, they age, indicating their continued existence and presence. The line "leave seeds out there" implies that we should spread our potential and contribute to the world by leaving our mark, whether it be through our actions, ideas, or influence. It suggests that our growth has a ripple effect that can impact others positively.
The final verse reinforces the importance of remaining open and receptive to new experiences and possibilities. It implies that by doing so, we can continue to grow and evolve. The phrase "grab justice where you are" suggests that embracing justice and fairness in whatever circumstances we find ourselves in also contributes to personal growth. The repeated line "you can always leave seeds" underscores the idea that our potential for growth and impact is limitless. It suggests that there is always something we can contribute, regardless of our circumstances. The overall message of the song seems to emphasize the power of openness, nurturing, and leaving a positive mark on the world as essential elements for personal growth and collective progress.
