Dean Brody was born in Jaffray, British Columbia, Canada.[2] As a boy, Brody worked at a sawmill, also playing guitar in his spare time. By 2004, he had moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his musical career. Although he found a songwriting contract, the expiration of his US work permit forced him to move back to Canada. Eventually, he returned to Nashville through the suggestion of producer Keith Stegall, who helped him sign with Broken Bow Records in 2008.[2] Brody released his debut single, "Brothers", late that year. Shortly before its release, Brody was injured in a waterskiing accident.[3]
Dirt

Opened presents, ate some cake
I took my tonka straight outside to play
In dirt
Six years old, hard line drive
That ball just sailed on by
Cause I was busy writing that name of mine
In dirt
It was my first love
Good as gold
Heaven was a shovel and a two foot hole
Mama should have bought all my clothes in brown
Cause I'd turn 'em that color anyhow
Even between the car and the front steps of that church
Was dirt
Turned sixteen bought a Chevrolet
Four wheel drive, what a happy day
So even if it rained I could play
In dirt
Couple years later, wouldn't you know
Lost my heart at the rodeo
She fell off her horse and was covered head to toe
In dirt
It was my first love
Good as gold
Heaven was a shovel and a two foot hole
It's the reason I'm out here tilling this land
And that rodeo queen's got a ring on her hand
I don't know where I'd be if it weren't
For dirt
I ain't afraid of growing old
Cause when I die I know where I'll go
There'll be no need to cry for me
I won't need your sympathy
When they cover me up with six feet of earth
It's just dirt
The song "Dirt," by Dean Brody, is a nostalgic tribute to the joys and simplicity of country living. The lyrics follow the singer from childhood to old age as he describes his deep connection to the natural world, specifically the dirt that surrounds him. He recalls his earliest memories of playing with his toys outside in the dirt, then moves on to more significant events like driving his first car and falling in love at a rodeo.
Throughout the song, the theme of dirt serves as a metaphor for a humble and genuine way of life. The singer suggests that his love for dirt, and the land it represents, is what has kept him grounded and grateful throughout the years. He sings, "It's the reason I'm out here tilling this land / And that rodeo queen's got a ring on her hand / I don't know where I'd be if it weren't / For dirt." In the end, the singer concludes that even in death, dirt will be his final resting place, and he embraces it without any fear or sadness.
Overall, the lyrics to "Dirt" are a heartwarming ode to country living, the importance of nature, and the value of simple pleasures.

This has been my song since I was alil guy. The only thing I ain't done on this song is marry a rodeo queen.
I was blessed and honoured enough to be married and chosen by a princess from Tsuu Tina Alberta, but I messed that one up, in true dumb ass fashion. Lol!!!! I'll love my princess forever though. She taught me true love, I never knew it till her n our babies. I never felt love till our hearts felt eachother, just like I knew even though she was older then me, already married with a child at that time, before us. The first time I saw her in her Nishnawbe women dancing regalia, She was the only one for me, and would be the only women I'd love to spend the rest of my life proving how much I love, her everyday, for as long as God gives us forever.
I miss her, but in my heart she's still with me in my heart for all the good times n things that happen in my life today n them days to come.
She also blessed me with 8 beautiful children, and 9 of the best grandbabies any Poppa could be blessed with. I'm also honoured to have the title of Poppa in our house.
Her n our babies blessed me with that job.
Maybe the prayer is these days maybe we could forgive ourselves, she'll forgive herself and we could continue where we left off. I believe that we should live for now, n we'll have no problem living for our future. I would love to finish what we started. But that would end my thoughts happy. Keep this song happy to me if I could get the princess that I met working in dirt, to put my ring back on her hand.
