Dean Brody was born in Jaffray, British Columbia, Canada.[2] As a boy, Brody worked at a sawmill, also playing guitar in his spare time. By 2004, he had moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his musical career. Although he found a songwriting contract, the expiration of his US work permit forced him to move back to Canada. Eventually, he returned to Nashville through the suggestion of producer Keith Stegall, who helped him sign with Broken Bow Records in 2008.[2] Brody released his debut single, "Brothers", late that year. Shortly before its release, Brody was injured in a waterskiing accident.[3]
Up On The Moon
Dean Brody Lyrics

My beers never tasted this cold
The bands playing all of my favorite songs
And somehow I don't feel at home
Tonight she is sure lookin' pretty
Dressed up in her Friday night's best
And she's left no doubt that she's moving on
Time says I should but I haven't yet
I wish we could start it all over
And I was someone that she never knew
Then there wouldn't be any distance
She'd be just 'cross the room
But from her point of view
I might as well be up on the moon
I wish I could be just a stranger
Walk over and ask her for a dance
Then we could get lost in the music
And I'd give anything for that second chance
T o smell that perfume that I bought her
Rest my hand on the back of her dress
And be that man standing beside her
And not the one over here by himself
I wish we could start it all over
And I was someone that she never knew
Then there wouldn't be any distance
She'd be just 'cross the room
But from her point of view
I might as well be up on the moon
I wish we could start it all over
And I was someone that she never knew
She'd be just 'cross the room
But from her point of view
I might as well be up on the moon
Yeah from her point of view
, the singer of the song is completely inaccessible, a far-off figure who might as well be on the moon. He's stuck in a place where he can see everything happening in front of him, but he can't be a part of it. The song's story is about a guy who's watching a woman he loves move on from him while he's stuck in the past, unable to let go of the past and pursue love with someone new.
The song is packed with vivid imagery that paints the picture of the scene perfectly. Dean's voice is full of longing and regret, as he tells the story of a man who's struggling to move on. The verse about his boots feeling good on hardwood is a nice touch -- it's a sign that he's in a place he likes to be, but that feeling is undercut by the fact that he's not with the person he loves.
The chorus is the heart of the song, as the singer airs his wish to be able to start again, to be a stranger to the one he loves so that they can get to know each other all over again without the burden of the past. There's a desperation to his voice as he sings about wanting a second chance, and it's a feeling that's surely relatable to anyone who's ever gone through a breakup or lost someone they loved.
