Over the past year, the girls' live demos and videos have circulated online. Deap Vally officially released their debut single, 'Gonna Make My Own Money', on Ark Recordings on July 30th, 2012. 'Gonna Make My Own Money' received an overwhelming positive response in both the U.S. and the U.K. They played their first London show at the Old Blue Last pub and venue in early July, where several other bands have made their mark. They have also landed spots at music festivals such as Hyde Park with Iggy Pop in London, United Kingdom, Latitude Festival in Henham Park in Suffolk, United Kingdom, and are set to play Reading and Leeds Festival in late August[when?]. Their live shows draw similar comparisons to Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, as well as guitar blues influences from Jack White.
Deap Vally will close out the 2012 year with a debut performance in Japan in November, where they will share the stage with the likes of Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr., among others.
Deap Vally's debut album will be released under Island Records / Communion in 2013.
Lies
Deap Vally Lyrics

You need to learn one thing or two
Brother, brother, brother
I’m gonna teach a thing on you
Brother, brother, brother
You want truth, you want truth
…close to you
Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes
Brother, brother, brother
..
You’re gonna get what you deserve
Brother, brother, brother
I tell you you’ve got no spine
Brother, brother, brother
And you ain’t no frined of mine
Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes
Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes
Lie, lie, lie...
I thought we agreed
You wouldn’t had the need to spread your seed
But it’s a fact
You broke yor contract
You’re gonna pay tenfold
You’re gonna be alone when you grow old
babe i wasn’t nothing for never you get nothing
Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes
Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes
The song "Lies" by Deap Vally speaks about betrayal and dishonesty in a relationship, specifically addressing the issue of lies being told directly to one's face. The chorus repeats the phrase "Lie, lie, lie and you look me in the eyes," emphasizing the theme of deception. The song also includes strong statements of disapproval towards the subject of the lyrics, with lines like "You're gonna get what you deserve" and "And you ain't no friend of mine."
The use of the term "brother" multiple times throughout the song could potentially suggest a familial relationship between the two individuals, further emphasizing the sense of betrayal and hurt caused by the lies. The lyric "You want truth, you want truth...close to you" seems to suggest that the person being lied to was seeking honesty and openness, but was instead met with deceit.
Overall, the song is a powerful expression of anger and disappointment towards someone who has broken trust and treated the other person poorly. The repetition of the phrase "lie, lie, lie" and the strong vocal delivery by the band help to convey this message with intensity and emotion.
