Over the past year, the girls' live demos and videos have circulated online. Deap Vally officially released their debut single, 'Gonna Make My Own Money', on Ark Recordings on July 30th, 2012. 'Gonna Make My Own Money' received an overwhelming positive response in both the U.S. and the U.K. They played their first London show at the Old Blue Last pub and venue in early July, where several other bands have made their mark. They have also landed spots at music festivals such as Hyde Park with Iggy Pop in London, United Kingdom, Latitude Festival in Henham Park in Suffolk, United Kingdom, and are set to play Reading and Leeds Festival in late August[when?]. Their live shows draw similar comparisons to Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, as well as guitar blues influences from Jack White.
Deap Vally will close out the 2012 year with a debut performance in Japan in November, where they will share the stage with the likes of Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr., among others.
Deap Vally's debut album will be released under Island Records / Communion in 2013.
Walk of Shame

Baby I don't feel no blame
Cause I got places to go
But I got no change of clothes
I went on this walk of shame
Baby I don't feel no blame
Goin' on a walk of shame
Baby I don't feel no blame
'Cause I got places to go
But I've got no change of clothes
Baby I don't feel no blame
I'm gonna take this walk of shame
Gonna take a walk of shame
Baby I don't feel no blame
Last night was a nice surprise
I'm still wearing last night's eyes
Goin' on this walk of shame
Baby I don't feel no blame
I'ma take a walk of pride (I'ma take a walk of pride)
I got sunshine in my stride (I got sunshine in my stride)
I found things out about you (I found things out about you)
Things I thought I never knew (Things I thought I never knew)
I got better things to do
I could get breakfast witchu
The lyrics to Deap Vally's "Walk of Shame" speak to a universal experience often associated with a one night stand. The singer describes how she is going to take a "walk of shame" after spending the night with someone. However, she is not ashamed and feels no blame for what she has done. Instead, the song depicts the singer as a confident and empowered figure, who has places to go, despite not having any change of clothes.
The lyrics also suggest that the previous night was a positive experience for the singer. She talks about it being a "nice surprise" and how she is still wearing the effects of it, in the form of her "last night's eyes". In the chorus, the singer takes ownership of her situation, stating that she is going to take a "walk of shame", but does not feel any shame about doing so.
Overall, the lyrics to "Walk of Shame" present a refreshing take on the typically shameful experience of waking up at someone's place after a one night stand. Instead of feeling embarrassed or powerless, the singer in this song is portrayed as empowered and unapologetic.
