Bio:
Originally formed in fall 2007 and called themselves Play Action Pass. However when the founding drummer and synth player of Play Action Pass left in February of 2008, they demanded the band change names. It was Dakota, our ex-drummer’s then girlfriend, whose last words to us were: “You guys will never go anywhere!” Dear Dakota, you may be right, but we can sincerely try!
Dear Dakota is...
Zane Bezesky - Vox
Mikey Gray - Guitar
James Patrick - Guitar
Tyler Cole - Bass/Vocals
Eric Millsaps - Drums
On May 19th their dearest friend and talented bassist Adam Arbitman passed away. They continue playing in memory of Adam, and know that his passion and love will always remain with them.
What Happened To You?

I won't succumb to it
You where there right by my side
Then pull the shades over my eyes
Please can you make me understand?
I'm swimming in a sea of
People whose waves are crashing down on me
It doesn't matter you'll go where the wind blows
I can't go through this no I didn't do this
Cause I'm real and I'm here and I'm not going anywhere
So take your views and your perceptions
Cast them off into the ocean
Cause you don't see me
I'm swimming in a sea of
People whose waves are crashing down on me
And even when I am all alone
It doesn't matter you'll go where the wind blows
Let's turn it all around
Closed eye's can change so many things
Let's turn it all around
To what we had, to what we'll bring
Let's turn it all around
Don't let them change you (Don't let them change you)
Don't let them change you
I'm swimming in a sea of
People whose waves are crashing down on me
And even when I am all alone
It doesn't matter you'll go where the wind blows
I watched this beautiful thing grow
It's dying, dying
What's left a pierced heart on the table
It's crying, I'm crying
Can't turn this all around
Closed eye's can change so many things
Let's turn it all around
To what we had, to what we'll bring
Can't turn this all around
Don't let them change you
Cause they have changed you
The lyrics of Dear Dakota's "What Happened To You?" speak about the struggles of a person who is dealing with the envy and spite that comes with being around other people. The singer acknowledges that these emotions can affect everyone, but they refuse to give into them. The singer then asks their friend to help them understand the situation they're in, as they feel blindsided by the friend's sudden change of heart. The rest of the song speaks about feeling overwhelmed by the negativity of the people around them, even when they are alone. The singer then implores the listener to turn things around, to not let the opinions of others change who they are.
The song's chorus is repeated three times, emphasizing the feeling of drowning in a sea of people's emotions. The bridge speaks about a relationship that has come apart, leaving the singer with a broken heart. They long for the time when things were good and want to turn things around.
Overall, the song is about feeling overwhelmed by negative emotions and the struggle to stay true to oneself amidst it all.
