In the summer of 2009, Danielle & Drew were touring separately across Canada, pursuing music projects. Finding they had a true connection, they began to talk of collaborating. This led them into a Vancouver studio in 2010, where they created the single “Heads Up. Watch Out.” After receiving positive feedback from music industry leaders and local fans, they toured together through Europe the following summer. While touring they decided to officially join together in creating a truly unique, creative sound “Dear Rouge”. They have completed their first EP, and are currently working on their first full length album. The band's name is a wordplay on Red Deer, a city in Alberta, Canada.

Dear Rouge Lyrics

It's hard to see your point of view
Nothing seems to ever change
I'm mad, but miss you all the same
It's what you did and didn't say
I feel far, so far away
On the outsail looking in
We repeat the same mistakes
If you could only understand
Through my heart and through my veins
I gave it all, I'll give again
I never meant to hurt you, dear
Sometimes the words I say aren't clear
I'm not perfect, I will let you down
Can't we find a common ground?
And I say, oh what is
There's a logic here
Come near, come nearer
And I'm here, hold my hand
We can talk things through
Come near, come nearer
Oh, ooooh (uh-oh)
Ooooh (uh-oh)
Ooooh (uh-oh, uh-oh)
Ooooh
It's what you did and didn't say
I feel far, so far away
On the outsail looking in
I find it hard to comprehend
We repeat the same mistakes
If you could only understand
Through my heart
(And I say, oh what is
There's a logic here
Come near, come nearer
And I'm here, hold my hand
We can talk things through)
Come near, come nearer

The lyrics of the song "October Second" by Dear Rouge express feelings of frustration, misunderstanding, and the struggle to communicate effectively in a relationship. The singer asks for space to think and tries to see the other person's perspective, but finds it difficult as nothing seems to change. Despite the anger, there is a sense of missing the other person. The lyrics touch upon the importance of communication, the need for understanding, and the willingness to forgive each other's mistakes.
The song suggests that misunderstandings in relationships often arise from what people say or don't say. The repetition of mistakes shows that although we may be aware of our past mistakes, we find it challenging to break the pattern. The singer confesses to not being perfect, but is willing to work towards finding a common ground. The chorus of the song expresses a desire for communication and closeness, urging the other person to come nearer and hold their hand to talk things through.
