Do you see what i see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what i see
A star, a star, dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what i hear
Ringing through the sky shepherd boy
Do you hear what i hear
A song, a song, high above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what i know
In your palace oh mighty king
Do you know what i know
A child, a child, shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what i say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what i say
A child, a child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light
Do you hear what i hear
A child, a child, sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light
The song "Do You Hear What I Hear" by Deas Vail is a rendition of a classic Christmas carol that was written by Noel Regney and Gloria Shayne in 1962. The song is known for its peaceful and heartwarming message about the birth of Jesus Christ. The first stanza starts with the nightwind speaking to a little lamb, asking whether it can see what the nightwind can see in the sky. The nightwind and the little lamb can both see a star with a big tail dancing in the night sky. The imagery of the star with the big tail is a symbol of the star of Bethlehem that guided the wise men to Jesus’ birthplace.
In the second stanza, the little lamb speaks to the shepherd boy and asks whether he hears what she hears ringing through the sky. The shepherd boy hears a song with a voice as big as the sea, which is a symbol of the angels’ song that proclaimed peace on earth and goodwill toward men when Jesus was born. In the third stanza, the shepherd boy goes to the mighty king and asks whether he knows what he knows. He informs the king that there is a child who shivers in the cold, and he proposes that they bring him silver and gold as gifts.
In the fourth and final stanza, the king addresses the people, asking them to listen to what he has to say. He proclaims that the child who is sleeping in the night will bring them goodness and light, and he asks them to pray for peace. Overall, the song is a beautiful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ, who came to bring peace, joy, and hope to the world.
