Death Angel is often referred to as one of the key bands in the Bay Area thrash metal movement of the 1980s, and secured opening slots at club venues that decade, including opening for their peers Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Testament, Overkill, D.R.I., Mercyful Fate and Possessed. They are also often credited as one of the leaders of the second wave of thrash metal movement from the 1980s, and considered to be one of the "big eight" of the genre (along with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus and Overkill), as well as one of the so-called "Big Six of Bay Area thrash metal" (alongside Exodus, Testament, Lååz Rockit, Forbidden and Vio-lence). Following the underground success of their first two studio albums, The Ultra-Violence (1987) and Frolic Through the Park (1988), Death Angel signed to Geffen Records in 1989, and released their only album for the label, Act III, the following year. While they were touring in support of Act III, then-drummer Andy Galeon was injured in a tour bus accident and needed more than a year to fully recover. This resulted in the band's break up in 1991. However, Death Angel reformed in 2001 (without original rhythm guitarist Gus Pepa) at the Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for Testament singer Chuck Billy. The band has since released six more albums, including Humanicide (2019), to which the title track gave Death Angel their first-ever Grammy Award nomination.

Lord Of Hate
Death Angel Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
is hungry for his spoon
His cries are met by joyous laughter
and stones from dusk till noon
He preyed upon the innocent
and thought forever more
Today He broke like fragile bones
Lord of Hate
Repercussion
Lord of Hate
For your corruption
Someday He'll stain the pages of
All books of history
The fool. The Joke. The laughing stock
What will be his legacy
Lord of Hate
Repercussion
Lord of Hate
For your destruction
And his myth
is fading quick
Set adrift
Like a sinking ship
Lord of Hate
Lord of fraud
Lord you've been exposed
PREPARE TO MEET THY GOD!
Lord of Hate
Repercussion
Lord of Hate
For your destruction
And his myth
is fading quick
Set adrift
Like a sinking ship
Lord of Hate
Lord of fraud
Lord you've been exposed
PREPARE TO MEET THY GOD!
The lyrics to Death Angel's "Lord of Hate" speak of a once-powerful figure who preyed upon the innocent and thought he would remain a master forever, but now finds himself beaten and hungry for his spoon while being pelted with stones from dawn till noon. This figure is described as the Lord of Hate, a corrupt being who will stain the pages of all books of history someday. His myth is fading quick, and he has become a joke, a laughing stock, with no legacy but destruction. The song warns the Lord of Hate to prepare to meet his God, as he has been exposed as a fraud.
This song can be interpreted in many ways, but it can be seen as a warning against tyrannical leaders who abuse their power and prey upon the innocent, reminding them that their reign will eventually come to an end and their legacy will be one of hate and destruction. The lyrics also suggest that these leaders will face repercussions for their actions and will ultimately meet their maker.
