Meet Me on the Equinox
Death Cab for Cutie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand

That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends

Meet me on your best behavior
Meet me at your worst
For there will be no stone unturned
Or bubble left to burst

Let me lay beside you, darling
Let me be your man
And let our bodies intertwine
But always understand

That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything ends
That everything, everything, everything ends

A window
An opened tomb
The sun crawls
Across your bedroom
A halo
A waiting room
Your last breaths
Moving through you

As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything ends
As everything, everything, everything
Everything, everything, everything ends

Meet me on the Equinox
Meet me half way
When the sun is perched at it's highest peek
In the middle of the day

Let me give my love to you
Let me take your hand
And as we walk in the dimming light
Oh darling understand

That everything, everything ends

Overall Meaning

The song "Meet Me on the Equinox" by Death Cab for Cutie is a beautiful and melancholic piece about fleeting love and the impermanence of all things. The beginning of the song sets the scene, asking the listener to meet the singer halfway on the equinox, a moment in which the day and night are of equal length, embodying the idea of balance and symmetry. In the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest point, they plan to walk in the dimming light, highlighting the transitory nature of time and the inevitability of change.

As the song progresses, the lyrics change from focusing on symmetry to the idea of the impermanence of everything. There will be "no stone unturned or bubble left to burst" as the two of them meet on their best and worst behaviours. The singer wants to be with the other person and have their bodies intertwine, yet emphasizes the importance of understanding that everything ends, even the joy of intimacy.

The final verse uses several stunning images such as an opened tomb, sun crawling across the bedroom, a halo, and waiting room to express the theme of the song. The metre slows down here, even suggesting the finality of death itself. The song then ends with the chorus of the two lovers meeting on the equinox, reminding us once again of the theme of balance and symmetry.

Houdini Fontmeister

Arguably the best part of the movies to be honest. I never cared for the movies but the soundtracks are golden.

Maroga Style

The twilight saga has the best soundtracks. There's many songs specially written and play for the saga. It's made very especial and beauty

Couldn't agree more :)

I guess the movie soundtracks got overshadowed by how cringe some people find those movies to be

As someone who was into Twilight growing up I went through three stages
The first when I was very openly loving Twilight
Then the angsts phase when it was cool to hate it but still secretly liked it
And now that I can recognize that the saga is very flawed and the books are poorly written but I remember fondly listening to this soundtrack and waiting for the trailers to come out and eventually going to see the movies, I appreciate Twilight because it made me feel like part of something. And also led me to seek other Vampire books, some good some I think even worse than Twilight itself. Lead me into reading in general.

You just described my emotions 'to the t'! Read the first book (courtesy of my friend who got me into it) unconsciously before I even heard of the first movie(watched the first by the time the second one had already come around so on and so forth...).But damn, the feelings the movies and the general atmosphere gave me still give me chills.I had a fictional melancholic (key word) world where I could wallow my junior high angst as much as I please...Discovered Muse,Death cab,Thom Yorke...Never quite caught up on the other books but it still got me into reading big time
