The Veil
Death Comesto Matteson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I bring my filthy rags
Into this storehouse of your love
I wear my love of flesh
Into the presence of your perfection

And you rip the veil
Uncover my eyes
I take up my cross
And become your bride

With these nails here in my hands
The very ones that pierced your skin

With my dowery of sand
I lay them at your feet again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Veil" by Death Comesto Matteson explore the theme of surrendering oneself to the divine. The beginning of the song talks about the singer bringing their imperfections and flaws, symbolized by "filthy rags" and "love of flesh," into the "storehouse of your love," which is a metaphor for the unconditional love of God. The singer acknowledges the contrast between their imperfections and the perfection of God, and the difficulty of reconciling the two.

However, in the second verse, things take a turn as God "rips the veil" and "uncovers" the singer's eyes, which suggests that they have an epiphany or a moment of clarity. The veil is a symbol of the barriers that exist between humanity and God, and removing it represents an unobstructed vision of God's grace and mercy. The singer then accepts their role as a disciple of Christ, taking up their cross and becoming "your bride." The image of the "bride" implies a deep commitment and partnership with God.

The third verse is a moving description of the singer's act of devotion. They mention the "nails" that were used to crucify Jesus, which now represent their own sacrifice and willingness to endure suffering for their faith. The singer gives their "dowery of sand," which is a contrast to the precious metals and jewels traditionally given as a dowry, suggesting that the singer values their faith more than earthly wealth. The repetitive phrase "I lay them at your feet again" emphasizes the singer's willingness to surrender and submit to God repeatedly.

Overall, "The Veil" is a powerful affirmation of faith and a recognition of the struggle that comes with trying to live up to divine standards. The song emphasizes the importance of surrendering one's ego and earthly desires in order to attain a deeper connection with God.

Didn’t Maya appear in the Clovis Bray journals but as some kind of Vex nightmare?

Tbh I'm glad I stayed my ground by siding with dead orbit in D1, I never really had much care for new monarchy and I always considered the FWC community as being competitive to us.
I even kept my ground with dead orbit in vanilla D2 and when season of the splicer came around and I saw her true colours, I realised just how messed up FWC truly was.
Lore wise I despise the FWC.
Not to say I despise the players who sided with FWC, y'all made your choice, not an issue but I can imagine the regret some people are feeling for siding with FWC after everything that happened in season of the splicer (I say some because there are players out there that kinda enjoy her racism and some that just don't care which is fine)

And now we learn she is actually Maya Sundaresh.

So... this brings me to another question, just how many current exo's are actually imprints of Maya Sundaresh?
Have we met any of them before? (We did meet Elsie Bray but her lore pretty much confirms she isn't secretly Maya, just Clovis's daughter with a unique body, I say that because the other exo's on europa actually complained that Elsie got a body that looked good but their's didn't, no cap they were jelous)
So many questions.. such little time...

I just think the weirdest thing about the vex is how they have such pinpoint accuracy that they don’t require spaceships or ground transports like most of our enemies lol

Freezerio

Well they basically have structures scattered across the entire galaxy, so I imagine they just compare coordinates like crazy.

That explains why Savathun (while in Osiris's body) killed her. Protecting the knowledge of the veil was too important.

Bundle_of_Wood

I’m predicting that Savathun is going to tell us the Vex are the key into the portal, Maya/Lakshmi might emerge as some sort of Vex mind with its own faction. Perhaps in opposition to one led by Asher Mir?

AFKMH23

Asher erased himself but you never know

TeKnoVKNG23

I figured this might be the case, or that Maya had somehow become a Vex mind. It would appear she instead figured out how to use the Veil to substitute for clarity to recreate the exo mind process. I do remember a few people theorizing that the initial set up for the cloud ark was similar to FWC's time seeing machine or whatever it was they had, now it all makes sense.
