They added the 1979 suffix to the name following a legal dispute with New York City dance-punk label Death From Above (known as DFA Records since the September 11, 2001 attacks). "Death from above" was written on a helicopter in the movie Apocalypse Now, which was copyrighted in 1979. However, Grainger says this is simply a coincidence; 1979 was chosen as it was, amongst other reasons, "the year I was born."
Death from Above 1979 had planned on recording the follow up to its debut full-length You're A Woman, I'm A Machine. There were plans to release it in three versions: the traditional bass/drums lineup, a full-band lineup with musicians assembled by Grainger, and a remix album. The albums featuring a full band and remixes were supposedly to be released on the band's official website.
In 2005 the video for "Romantic Rights" won a VideoFACT award at the MuchMusic Video Music Awards.
On August 4, 2006, the band announced they had decided to split "almost a year ago" due to the strained relationship between the two - claiming they only talked during interviews and just before shows - not to mention the fact that they had achieved all their aims after the record went gold in their native Canada.
Keeler was slated to play bass on the Queens Of The Stone Age album Era Vulgaris, but later revealed on the Death From Above 1979 message board that he could not due to scheduling conflicts. Keeler is now one half of MSTRKRFT, his new project with producer Al-P.
Sebastien Grainger is now in his own side project band Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains
In 2011 it was announced that the band were reuniting to perform at Coachella, then the band announced that they were planning to reunite on an ongoing basis.

Oh, and one day she will have a baby
My brother has a baby
Oh, and one day, and one day, she'll save me
Oh, oh, need to talk to you, girl
Oh, oh, no, no
You know this lady
When can I see you?
Can I love you?
Can I hold you, hold you?
My brother has a baby
Oh, oh no
Oh, oh, oh no
You see this baby
She's a lady, she's a lady, lady
When can I see you?
Can I know you?
Can I love you, love you?
You know this lady
She's my baby
She's my baby, baby
When can I see you?
Can I know you?
Can I hold you?
You see this baby
She's a lady, she's a lady, lady
When can I see you?
Can I know you?
Can I love you, love you?
The lyrics of Little Girl by Death From Above 1979 tell a story of a man who is infatuated with his brother's lady who also has a baby. The songwriter expresses his desire to be with the lady and asks when he can see her, love her, and hold her. He describes the lady as his baby and a lady that he would like to know and be with. There is also a sense of urgency expressed in the lines "Oh, oh, need to talk to you, girl" and "Oh, oh no, no".
The repetitive nature of the lyrics conveys a sense of longing and desperation for the lady. It could be interpreted as an unrequited love or an illicit desire for his brother's partner. The line "She'll save me" may indicate that the songwriter feels that being with this lady will bring him salvation or a sense of completeness.
Overall, the song portrays the conflicting feelings of love and guilt, which may be the result of socially inappropriate emotions or a taboo romantic relationship. The lyrics leave the listener with a sense of ambiguity and uncertainty regarding the nature of the relationship between the singer and the lady in question.

This song clicked for me from the very first time. I started playing bass because of it, then it followed my whole interest in music, my music studies and my degree. But it all started from here, and it gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it, after so many years.
