The “bottomless pit” in question could have many interpretations, and multiple ones could be simultaneously true, however what is evidently clear is that whatever idea of endlessness assigned to it, comes from a place of joy, at least from Ride’s standpoint. Even though as he says in the song that he has a lot of hatred, it isn’t something he’s ashamed of at all. It could be viewed as joyful from the listener’s standpoint as well. It seems that Ride is comparing listening to Death Grips to falling down a bottomless pit and enjoying the adrenaline rush of what would be the ride of your life.
“Bottomless Pit” also could be a reference to Charles Manson. He believed that the “bottomless pit” mentioned in the Book of Revelations was an actual cave underneath Death Valley. He predicted he and his family would find a lost city of gold there and use the place to wait out armageddon (this would have happened during the apocalyptic blacks vs. whites war Manson thought would ooccur in his Helter Skelter scenario). During this time the family would grow to 144,000 people, a number that he also pulled from Revelations. At this point they would reemerge and claim themselves as overlords in the wasteland. On their debut mixtape “Exmilitary” Death Grips sampled audio of Charles Manson describing how he asserts dominance over his own destiny. Also the song “Spikes” contains a reference to Helter Skelter.
