Overall Meaning

In my honest opinion, Fischer was tired of knowing the truth, knowing the double standards, knowing the lies. He was tired with all that was wrong in the world.
He was pure and real, despite his mental health issues which is the mark of a great man. For the most part not seeing positive changes that he envisioned.
A lot of what Bobby Fischer was saying and feeling was true. He healed himself by focusing all his time on chess. I do not blame him for not wanting all the cameras in his face.
People using him for their own personal gains. He mentions in his interview in 2005, in Iceland about the good Jewish people vs the bad Jewish people and not standing up vs what is wrong. Also about big companies and their intellectual property rights, corporate copyrights etc and their use of power. All he said was true, they do manipulate the fabrics to achieve what they want, not only for financial gain. We can see that now in 2021, it only continues..

Fischer did anything, his work ethic and dedication was beautiful. He was able to struggle and dedicate to be world chess champion.
He read 2000+ books on chess and hundreds of magazines. He sacrificed his life to the game and as he mentioned, he was 100% tied to chess.
Very sad, he never had any relationship with his father, he was escaping and I do not blame him, all the loneliness he experienced in his life.
He payed the ultimate sacrifice with chess, only he knows if it was worth it. Also very sad he never defended his title, vs Anatoly Karpov in the 1970's after he defeated Boris Spassky.
His legacy will live for a long time, a true legend and genius. Forget about Hyperacusis and paranoia and all the things people said about his attitude. His heart was in the correct place, which is all that counts. Garry Kasparov explained it well, in this documentary" I think there was too much on his shoulders, too much pressure." And there was.
Bobby Fischer also proclaimed, " Before I became world champion, the world did not look at the United States as a intellectual nation." Another true statement. He was American hero.
One last really nice thing was how much his wife Miyoko, from Japan. How much she supported him and loved him for who he was, despite his issues and problems, in his old age.

Chess is a strange game. Here are my points:
1. The queen is the most powerful piece. So powerful that the king relies upon her more than his knights, and he has to hide behind her skirts, so to speak.
2. Not only does the king rely on the queen to preserve his life but he is the weakest of the lot.
3. He is so weak that even those little pawns do his fighting for him while he remains at home.
4. Not content with that and worse still, the king sends his wife out to fight his battles for him.
5. The queen is the most feared warrior and the king who she attacks is more afraid of her than anyone else. So he hides behind the skirts of his own queen.
6. Bishops don't fight in wars, like knights. They should remain behind, praying.
7. Since when could a king leap over castle? And if he is that mighty, why doesn't he ever go out to battle?
8. Castles are not mobile. And they are usually surrounded by moats, and certainly don't go out to battle as if they were soldiers.
9. The queen is even stronger than a castle. I don't think that's very becoming for a woman.
10. The pawns are the weirdest and perhaps that's why they are the most expendable. For once they get right to the end of the enemy's territory they can become any piece they like except for a king. You see even in this, so little is thought of the king, that they all generally prefer to have a sex change into a queen given the opportunity... well, unless they are all fair maidens desiring to become queen. But why they ever want to become queen when they have to be married to the weakest and most cowardly person in the kingdom, I have no idea.

I look into Bobby's eyes and I see a boy who just wanted to be loved. He got lost in his intensity for chess, an intensity that kept him alive and propelled him to greatness too, but greater meaning for him remained generally elusive. It's sad to think he didn't ever truly understand how much he meant to the chess community and how much he was loved by all. A tragic hero.

Was watching this, feeling sad about not feeling I've fulfilled my potential in life, whilst watching someone who had, be it only for a brief while. But hearing Bobby at the end say that he always wonders why he can't write a song, made me remember, that I should feel grateful for my gifts, of writing songs, and that we each should remember and celebrate the miracles that our gifts, whether or not we feel we've used them as much as we feel we could have, and whether or not our gifts are celebrated by others, or they bring joy, fulfilment and purpose solely to ourselves.

I've never watched Bobby Fischer play chess, but after watching this video I believe it to easily see the strategy B.F. used , he obviously began the game before the chess game even started by utilizing mental stresses, the emotional stresses, and human frustration against his opponent, he was on a whole nother level of the game of chess. He I honestly believe he knew that he could beat his opponent easily and wanted to challenge himself, so he included all that unnecessary situations and moves. It's like Eddie Van Halen in a contest with anyone else in the world. He has beaten so many, and won so much , the fact that his game became such an entertainment circus, political circus, and made it his own fiasco. I applaud him well done

What a life that he must've lived. From now on I won't think of him as the greatest of chess players or an insane person. I wil think of him as the person he was. His love for animals. His intelect. His composture. What is it to be crazy anyways? We do live in a crazy world. He was human, and I am happy to assume that he is one of the best persons I will ever have known to have existed. A part of me thinks that from the young age in which he started acting "weird", he knew that many things were off in the world he lived in and that we still live in (if it was that bad then just try to imagine how it is now, if you can, even). Just like in chess, there is no real free will, and if you think there is, you're probably getting checkmated. Something like that. Nice documentary. I wonder if he was scared of dying.

Of course the only good outcome of professional chess is good and wonderful games. Every person is part of the activity and not above the activity. This law applies to chess also. He probably already had some traits of paranoid personality disorder, most likely passed down genetically from his mom. It's been shown that competitive chess players score highly for unconventional thinking and paranoia. Playing competitive chess tends to make those individuals predisposed to paranoia that much worse over time. Something about constantly thinking on the multiple ways your opponent can attack you on the chess board.

He doesn't come off as crazy, just misunderstood by people too stubborn/biased or something thus giving him a negative attitude sometimes which makes him maybe lose track of hygiene and stuff which is then used to say he is crazy by the people who are biased against him (perhaps irrationally biased against him). He's lacking in a certain type of intelligence or something maybe with his bible stuff after he got the world title, and maybe more than that one particular one, but then again maybe not b/c I'm not sure I know his side of the story/the full situation well enough.

To me, there is no secrete to chess. You learn the past, (like every GM has done), and if you want to beat those tape recorders, you bring your own game on top of that. It takes a lot of work. But that is how anybody in any discipline becomes the best. With 100% of his effort put toward this game, (to be the best), it is no wonder why he could not figure out reality off the chess table. But he did prove, and this is the most valuable lesson that is missed on purpose, that the thinking individual can and does out class all of communist thinking. The important story is not what he did after chess. The important story is individual liberty vs communism. If mental illness means we can not figure out reality,---we graduate them by the millions from our schools today.

Called eccentric cause he was interested in other stuff than most people were back then. Meanwhile, he looks like a completely normal guy to me! He was still interested in science and the world around him even though he was a chess mastermind. He just wasn't superficial enough to want to be famous.

Tony Randell was a real intellect... This is an excellent documentary - Karpov was so young back then. Fischer was a genius at chess and was never mad - paranoid yes and complex and without stability. The parallels with Morphy are extraordinary. I don't believe he was the best chess player ever.... he didn't show the duration .... great job with this documentary.

@Mitchell L Hes a legend fascinating man pre and post"madness"...."alleged madness" I dont think he was crazy at all personally just really sick of certain things and did what many do attribute the evil deeds of some to a collective group....frankly I get that even though its never justified to that extent, anyways yeah amazing man Fisher was.Truly a damn shame he never had children of his own in the end and his line will die out.

The grand master has a very good memory for tactics played in the past. Bobby did that too,---but brought his own tactics which he did think of as a individual. That is why he won. If that has not been done since, then that is why he was the greatest chess player who ever lived. If he were in russia as a chess playing child, he would have gotten his hand slapped by authorities for doing something different and new. He got ripped off in 1962 when he should have won the world championship, and went through them like a hot knife through butter in 1972, so I consider that 10 years a pretty good duration,---theft not included.

a GM level chess player will exhaust 4000-6000 calories per chess game. You spent more than 3x the calories playing chess than you do playing basketball. I would reconsider that a chess player is not an athlete

@C Dawg Yeah, it's not a big story that alot of these things are true. Tuning it out once learning it is imperative. I couldn't imagine not being able to, also didn't help that he was actually being openly condemned by his home country. Then Bush saying there's no where you can go where I can't touch you is downright evil.

It's sad that many people only can recognize the evil of the world, and are unable to see the Love from people who are right next to them.
Unfortunately the amount of evil from people worldwide block out all the Love that people have worldwide. It's important that the Love is recognized and evils be noticed but not recognized as important. Love defeats evil like the turtle defeats the hare. Today you might see evil as the victor, but when that finish line is within sight Love will overwhelm all evils upon this world we live in, and wash the darkness into it's earned and final place of existence, and Love will remain to cross the finish line. Or the King is the smartest piece on the board, getting his queen & knights to do all the work, Also the Queen has to be chosen by the King to be a queen, it doesn't work the other way around. It’s really sad and disgusting how US government made of grown ass men used a child as propaganda and leeched onto his individual success. The fact they are mentioned this much in his chess career is pathetic and I hope there’s a new one just focusing on him and the mindset it takes to be the best without a government wanting to be center of attention.

It was done with other young athletes like swimmers (tend to be pretty young) and gymnasts (tend to be very young) and math prodigies and so on. It was to "prove our system is better" - it was and is not, just different, and arguably worse.
