Fine line we stay behind, to want to lie
Oh same goes, you feel solo
But you hardly deny me
You try, I try, we might collide
No rules or design, we have an understanding
We are like-minded, just look and you will find it
Aah ooh, Aah ooh, Aah ooh,
Aah ooh, Aah ooh, Aah ooh,
Aah ooh, Aah ooh
The things that you're saying
Expressions you're making
I feel like laughing
And you feel like crying
Hardly a statement, a conscious arrangement
Why ask the question of what happens next
'Cause oh, you know, the same goes
I feel solo
And you hardly deny me
We are like-minded
Just look and you will find it
Easy to understand me
And I get you completely
Aah ooh, Aah ooh, Aah ooh,
Aah ooh, Aah ooh,
Aah ooh, Aah ooh,
Aah ooh, Aah ooh
The lyrics to Decoder Ring's "Jets" convey a sense of connection and understanding between two individuals who may not have a lot in common. The opening lines establish a sense of isolation - there is no time and no human kind alike, and a fine line is being walked between truth and lies. However, despite this, the two people in question feel a connection, even if they are solo in many respects.
The chorus is where the idea of being "like-minded" really comes to the forefront. The two people try to understand each other, and there is potential for them to "collide" - they are similar enough to feel drawn to each other, but there are no rules or design governing their interactions. The repetition of the "Aah ooh" vocalizations adds to the poetic, dreamlike quality of the song, emphasizing the emotional connection between the two people.
The second verse emphasizes the idea that the connection between the two people is not necessarily based on logical, conscious decision-making. The things they say and do may not always make sense to each other, but they still feel a sense of mutual understanding. The verse ends by questioning the idea of what happens next – it's clear that these two people have a connection, but does that mean they will necessarily end up together?
Overall, "Jets" is a song about the complexities of human connection. Sometimes we feel drawn to people who are very different from us, and that connection is based on intuition rather than reason. Despite the isolation and struggles that we face as individuals, there is always the potential for understanding and relationship with those around us.
