All is delightful today,
This ship drops me off right here,
No longer frightened, no fear
Alight now, alight now, its alright now, alight now
Quietly we disembark, separately into the dark,
All around is all around,
Alight now, alight now, its alright now, alight now
Find out what's outside
The lyrics of Decoder Ring's song "Out of Range" paint a picture of a serene and peaceful moment of disembarking from a ship and entering the darkness. The first verse begins with the "silent motion" of the ship, which is "delightful" as it drops the singer off somewhere they feel safe and unafraid. The repetition of "alight now, alight now, it's alright now, alight now" emphasizes this sense of calm and reassurance. The second verse emphasizes the solitude of the singer as they disembark, describing how everything around them is silent and there is no one to hear them. The final line, "find out what's outside," suggests a sense of adventure and exploration waiting just beyond the darkness.
The lyrics of "Out of Range" can be interpreted in many ways, but overall they seem to suggest a moment of reset and renewal. By disembarking from the ship and venturing into the darkness, the singer is shedding their worries and fears and embracing the unknown. This theme of renewal can be seen in the repeated refrain of "alight now," which suggests a letting go of whatever is weighing the singer down.
