In 1996, Breakfast at Tiffany's, which referenced the classic Audrey Hepburn film of the same name, reached the top five in the U.S. and number one in the United Kingdom.
There was conjecture that the band took so much time off between Home and Deep Blue Something in order to fight US centered copyright issues related to their initial album, 11th Song, which they believed to be of lower quality than their name deserved. The 7 year hiatus between albums is believed to be partially responsible for their failure to succeed in the US with their self-titled release.
The band returned in 2015 to release new music for the first time since 2001. This EP was titled Locust House.
John Kirtland is now running a successful independent record label called Kirtland Records. Based out of Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California, Kirtland's shrewd business dealings led to his ownership of the back-catalog of superstar band, Bush and royalty rights on the sales of certain albums by No Doubt. After selling off his rights to the No Doubt material, Bush remains on the Kirtland label along with successful indies like Bril and the Burden Brothers.
Beautiful Nightmare
Deep Blue Something Lyrics

That it's nothing to cry about
And I'm walking through halls and through walls
And she's changing everyday
And she's a beautiful nightmare
Who will know what she'll wear this year
And I'm walking on thin air
And she's thinking where to go and she goes
And she's breaking all of my falls
And she's laughing at all of her own jokes
And I'm sleeping and she's still awake
And she's a beautiful nightmare
Who will know what to wear this year
And I'm walking on thin air, yeah
Won't you show me the way out of here?
And I'm not the one
To tell her what she's doing wrong
And I'm not the one
She's a beautiful nightmare
Who will know what she'll wear this year
And I'm walking on thin air, yeah
Won't you show me the way out of here?
And she's a beautiful nightmare
That I've been dreaming about for years
And I'm walking through mine-fields
Won't you show me a way out of here?
And I'm walking on thin air
Well she knows, she knows
And I'm walking on thin air
Well she knows, she knows
And I'm walking on thin air
Well she knows, she knows
And I'm walking on thin air
Well she knows, she knows
The lyrics to Deep Blue Something's song "Beautiful Nightmare" describe a woman who is enigmatic and unpredictable, but utterly captivating. The singer observes her from a distance, marveling at how effortlessly she seems to navigate life. He is in awe of her beauty, but also recognizes that there is an element of danger to her existence – hence the term "beautiful nightmare." Still, he can't help but be drawn to her, even as he struggles to keep up.
As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is not necessarily a close friend or romantic partner of the woman in question. He is more of an admirer, someone who has observed her from afar and been taken by her. Despite this distance, however, he feels a deep connection to her – one that he struggles to articulate. Instead, he simply watches her move through life, hoping that she might someday show him the way out of his own confusion.
Overall, "Beautiful Nightmare" is a song about the power of charisma and how it can both fascinate and intimidate those who encounter it. It captures the feeling of being captivated by someone who is slightly out of reach, and yearning for a glimpse into their world.
