Josey
Deep Blue Something Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Take my head out of my hands
We'll never go through this again
I couldn't do it without my friends
Get it out of me

And I won't
I won't
Swear it
And I won't
I won't
Swear it

"Jack flo and Josey 19"
Come on in, I hope you're clean
Do you know how to use this thing
I know, I know

And I won't
I won't
Swear it
And I won't
I won't
Swear it

And what you do and where you go
And wherever you go I will go
We will never let it come to this
Discovered mean 'cause I know
That we can do most anything
To decide toast and go home
Don't ever let them throw me out
'Cause I know
I am not alone

So you think you can change my world
And I thought o' my little girl
All these things are in my hair and she says
She says that, "I won't"
I won't
Swear it

And I won't
I won't
Swear it

And what you do and where you go
And wherever you go well I'll go
We will never let it come to this
Discovered mean 'cause I know
That we can do most anything
To decide toast and go home
Don't ever let them throw me out
'Cause I know
I am not alone

Overall Meaning

The song "Josey" by Deep Blue Something is a poignant reflection on the power of friendship and the strength that it can bring in difficult times. The opening lines, "Take my head out of my hands, we'll never go through this again," suggest a sense of relief and acceptance after going through a tough situation. The singer acknowledges that they couldn't have made it through without their friends and declares that they will never have to go through that kind of turmoil again.

The chorus consists of recurring lines that express a strong conviction: "And I won't, I won't swear it." This phrase can be interpreted in different ways depending on the context, but in this song it may signify a refusal to give up, to swear off hope despite the challenges faced. The reference to "Jack flo and Josey 19" is not fully explained, but it seems to be a greeting or invitation to some friends, possibly related to sharing a drug or an experience together. The words "Do you know how to use this thing, I know, I know" may add a note of caution or reassurance, implying that the singer is showing their friends how to handle something properly.

The subsequent verses contain some intriguing lines that suggest a deeper meaning. The phrase "And what you do and where you go, and wherever you go well I'll go" implies a strong bond between the singer and someone they care about deeply. The line "Discovered mean 'cause I know" is another enigmatic phrase, which could mean that the singer has discovered a meaningful truth or that they have learned to be mean in some way. The final lines of the song, "Don't ever let them throw me out, 'cause I know I am not alone," express a plea for support and a declaration of solidarity. Overall, the song "Josey" has a mystical quality to it, blending different themes and emotions in a way that invites the listener to fill in the gaps with their own interpretations.

I couldn't do it without my friends
Get it out of me

And I won't

Jack, Flo and Josey, 19
Come on in, I hope you're clean
Do you know how to use this thing?
Well, I know, I know

And I won't
I won't
Sweat it

And I won't
I won't

I listened to this album all the way through about 100 times when I first got it back in the mid-90's. Very good band. I met them when they played a Halloween show here in Bakersfield in '01. They were really nice guys also.

Everybody's real nice when everything's perfect and you have tons of cash.

@darinmurano

my brother shot this video. at the time i was in a regional touring band. the end result, was that the industry just didn't care about Dallas bands. if you ever went to a tripping daisy show, you know how fantastic Dallas music was... and then it's clear how little support was given. so sad for so many wonderful acts. even Eddie Brickel quit the minute she met Paul Simon. tragic.

@darinmurano

@Misti Roberts fun fact. she's back in full force, and dear friend of mind is a guitar player in her current band
