In my opinion, Cave’s Trilogy is one of the most powerful, most stunning, and Greatest works of Art - of the 21st Century.

Getting into AWL when I did (about 19 years old) was so important for me because it redefined what heavy music could be. Before that I was listening to Megadeth, Metallica and Tool. They're all great bands but Converge were so much more chaotic and powerful. The lyrics to Aimless Arrow resonated with me a tonne also and the album has ended up becoming one of my all time favourites.

Personally my album of decade has to be The Glowing Man by Swans. I love all the albums of the trilogy, but I find that as one collective piece, from front to back, The Glowing Man offers the most voluminous experience of them all (though not by a very wide margin). I find myself really "feeling" the music, but not in the way that I would "feel" when listening to something like A Crow Looked at Me. This is more like a transcendental feeling, and one of the few albums that makes me feel like I'm not in usual reality, with usual emotions, but rather I'm just "here," experiencing the epic that is this album.

The title track finishes the album off with what is one of my personal favorite Swans tracks, and my absolute favorite closer to an album. It's like the whole album you were watching fireworks, and the title track becomes the finale, building up to this explosion of tension and intensity, and ultimately serving as a true climax. The actual final track, Finally, Peace, feels like an extension of the title track, serving as a breath of relief, a final moment of calm, once the massive storm that was the album prior has passed. It all fits together beautifully. While it's not an album I listen to often, when I do, I find that it's one of the few albums where I feel genuinely satisfied when the experience is all over.

AOTD for me is Drink The Sea by The Glitch Mob. each song is an episode of an adventurous, epic, dramatic electronic tale. it sounds like a soundtrack to trying to fight through holograph monsters to get to a treasure trove at the bottom of holographic, cybernetic ocean. there are songs that are these stomping, bleeping, and sometimes orchestral epics of tracks. and there are songs that have an emotional element to it. those songs are these mid to low tempo'd dramatic, and atmospheric songs.

I think There is Love in You by Four Tet is easily one of the most underrated albums of the decade!! Very beautiful and positive acousto-electronic album thriving with an incredible energy. I really really love it, one of my go to love/reassuring/relaxing albums

severely underrated rec: Big Brave’s album “Au De La” (released 2015). slow, primal drums. atmospheric bliss. hurricanes of noise/feedback swirl around robin’s gorgeous vocals. the trio give an emotional weight to doom and experimental rock that i’ve never heard done better. i LOVE this band

FINALLY SOMEONE APPRECIATES VULNICURA!! i truly think this is not only her best release of this decade, but the best of her discography. i think she has truly come into her own as a producer, singer, and composer and it is a truly underrated album compared to the massive amounts of praise her earlier albums get (well deserves dont get me wrong) but his album truly is bjork at her best.

Blackstar is indeed an incredible album. Bowie has surprised and impressed me countless times since I first saw the video for ashes to ashes in 1980. It is just fitting that his last album turned out the most surprising and impressive of all.

I really like this list. Quite a few records I haven’t heard but am happy to check out as I love hearing new music.
My list definitely would have had Lorde’s Pure Heroine and PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake somewhere. My top album was Skeleton Tree as it literally had a life changing impact on me. Love how high Björk was. And Blackstar was another masterpiece of the decade for sure.

Another band worth to listen is RED CAN. They are bringing some fresh and powerful vibes to the rock scene. They released their first and self-produced EP "50:00:00" (named after the hours needed to make it) in 2019 and, personally, I can't wait to see what they make next.

I was glad to see Everywhere At The End Of Time mentioned. I thought it was a mind-blowing experience, completely unforgettable, but I also never want to listen to it again. Threw me into inner turmoil for the next 24 hours after listening to the 6 stages in succession, something which no other album has ever come close to for me. It's creeping up my back again, just recalling the thing. A work of genius, not recommended

Guess it's easier to listen to anything Kozelek having followed his career from what was known as slowcore. Cheers!

I was surprised you didn't include any "have a nice life" or "madlib" but obviously there was a lot to consider over 10 years. I think personally I would have included "Against All Logic's" self titled in there. If you want to hear some sample based house layered with inventive, human/messy sounding and infectious sound design then check it out. It's brilliant.

Bits of Scott 3&4 directly foreshadow latter-day Scott, and The Electrician is bone-chillingly good 40+ years later; and Climate of Hunter, Tilt, The Drift, and Soused are all brilliant in their own ways. But I think that all Scott Walker ends up at Bish Bosch, that this is his definitive avant-garde statement.

I couldn't make a whole list, but for me, one of the best this decade has to be Spell #6 from Part Time.
Synth Pop/New Wave moody tracks that feel like they've been pulled straight out of the 80's.
If it sounds interesting to you, but you don't have the time to listen to the full album, there are a few songs I definitely recommend a listen; Hide, Higher Fantasy, Boys That Make Her Cry, and the title song, Spell #6 are my personal favorites.

The first album that comes to mind is Foxing's–Nearer My God (2018), absolutely amazing. The Albatross was fantastic as well, but NMG was top tier. And while it's not a full album I loved boygenius' self-titled debut.
Edit: I think CALIGULA by LINGUA IGNOTA and No One Deserves Happiness by the body deserve recognition too.

SWOON is such a good word when talking about Jessy Lanza's music. She has become a recurring character in my musical-emotional life that I channel my love of 80s/90s RnB and 80s synth pop and black American/UK electronic music through. Very femme and subtle lyrics mixed with layers and layers of riffs and vocal approaches and effects and chord modulations. Lanza reminds me in weird ways of the mastery of jazz that someone like my uncle, a guitarist and professor at Berklee in Boston (humble brag? idk) demonstrates through playing. She has a mastery of the grooves of RnB, the sonic and spatial depth of contemporary electronic music, and a self-aware but passionate mastery of the palettes she mixes from. She makes me think of the film idiom of "Showing, not telling." That's how I feel with Gang Gange Dance too, you chose of their records a very insectoid, chirping, sandy, melty record that makes huge sounds and quiet rabbit holes with a "limited" palette of sonic approaches

This sort of list is so interesting to see. If for nothing else than the fact that there is so much music in the world, that it's hard to really indite someone for their taste. There are always a bunch of albums that you've just never heard of. There's defintiely some artists I will want to look into.

Great list! Look forward to diving into the stuff I haven’t heard. One album that jumps to mind that’s not on there is PJ Harvey’s Let England Shake. Such a brilliant concept album that paints gut-wrenching images of World War I, which resonates with the horrors of modern atrocities committed by Western nations (particularly the US and England). I love Harvey’s higher-than-usual vocal range on it and just find the songs to be totally infectious.
