Fortune Teller
Deep Purple Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Cast your eyes into the crystal
Deep inside the mystery
Is that a vision of a lonely man
I fear it looks a lot like me
Is that a man without a woman
Whose empty life is but a shell
Empty hearts will echo
Forever in the wishing well

Fortuneteller
You've got to help me find an end to the nightmare
'Cause I can't stand this pain and the curse of time
Somewhere in your eyes I'll find the answer
Give me the truth I've been looking for
Be my guiding light, I'll take my chances
Turn the card, seal my fate, close the door

Some days come with a vengeance
Some days I feel so bad
The mirror holds no secrets
I lost the best thing that I had

Fortuneteller
Can you help me to see, is there an end to the sorrow
Or was this slow ride to nowhere always meant to be
Somewhere in your eyes I'll find the answer
Give me the truth I've been looking for
Be my guiding light, I'll take my chances
Turn the card, seal my fate, close the door

She always taking more than she'd need
But we were both to blame somehow
In the heat of the moment I told her to leave

I guess I lost more than I found
But I remember

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Deep Purple's song "Fortune Teller" express a man's search for answers about his lonely and empty life. The song begins with a reference to a crystal ball and a mysterious vision of a man that seems to reflect his own life. The lyrics reveal the singer's desire to seek the help of a fortuneteller to find a way out of his nightmare of pain and suffering caused by the curse of time.

The lyrics suggest that the singer has lost something valuable in his life, perhaps a woman who was the best thing he ever had. He asks the fortuneteller if there is an end to his sorrow or if his life was always meant to be a slow ride to nowhere. He pleads for the fortuneteller to be his guiding light and to show him the truth he has been looking for.

The song portrays a sense of desperation and a longing for guidance and direction. It also touches on the theme of regret and the consequences of missing opportunities in life. In the end, the singer realizes that he has lost more than he found.

Ongi has been living alone in a monthly rental home, leaking and tumbledown, which has a sitting capacity of less than three people, since her once tranquil life was completely obliterated by her cat's unexpected early death last month.

" I'm afraid that she'll die of a nervous breakdown," Newkie said to Juhyuk , a pseudo fortuneteller, when he visited the latter to ask him about what their future life would look like. " Or possibly she may stop short of killing herself as a result of becoming entangled in a sense of guilt and a lot of fingerpointing too hard for her to bear with. I know how much she loved the cat , and yet I condemned her as irresponsible and neglectful of the poor cat , because she wouldn't tell me what had happened. Even her favorite insect bun didn't work."😑

In fact , nothing gave Newkie any pointers of how to address their then misfortune , nor did he have a capacity of understanding her bitter despair.

" Just hugging and patting will create a better desired effect than knowing the truth ," said the pseudo fortuneteller . " And any excessive efforts to draw attention away from the painful memory of her cat's too early death' ll simply present a serious problem to her which words completely fail to describe."

Juhyuk kept persuading Newkie into swearing by hugging and patting .
So, Newkie 's decided to swear by Juhyuk and pass her rental home night after night and study the window , to begin with.
if she was dead, he thought, he would see no gleam from her second-floor window . But that's the last thing he wanted to see. It's time to comfort her now.😁

I just can't get enough of this song and this album. I am a hardcore fan of Purple and Ritchie and this album is my all the time favorite. I totally agree that In Rock, machine Head , Perfect Strangers are all strong but Slaves & Masters is different because of JLT voice and his lyrics. This song is story of my life alongside of King of Dreams.
