Default were initially discovered by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback. Impressed by the band, Kroeger aided Default wherever possible by taking them on tours, co-writing songs, and producing material. Default have since progressively distanced themselves from Kroeger's influence over the years.
Default's hit single "Deny" was featured in the 2003 iteration of EA Sports' NHL video game series which help them gain even further exposure. Having already amassed an adequate fan base and frequent radio airplay in their native Canada, they managed to gain popularity in the United States for their hit singles "Wasting My Time" and "Deny" from their first album The Fallout. Default's first and second albums were produced with the help of Chad Kroeger, who would later reduce his involvement by only co-writing one song for their third album "One Thing Remains". Despite the significant success of the singles from The Fallout, Their follow-up albums Elocation and One Thing Remains failed to gain the same amount of popularity and radio airplay in the United States as their debut. Elocation was mostly successful for their hit single "(Taking My) Life Away" which was played extensively on the radio and television in Canada. Their second single from "Elocation" was "Throw It All Away", which was then followed by "All She Wrote". The single "Count On Me" from their third album One Thing Remains was a hit on Canadian radio before the album was even released. The Band also had their song "The Memory Will Never Die" featured on WWE's Wrestlemania.
Default's fourth album, which was originally planned to be released in 2007, had suffered significant delays and setbacks due to issues with their record label TVT, which eventually went bankrupt and was sold to an independent label known as The Orchard. Back on a new label, Default's fourth album "Comes and Goes" to be released in September 2009 via EMI Canada Records, with the first single being "All Over Me".

Default Lyrics

I've got you figured out
So proud, walking tall
is what you're all about
What you are is what you make
Don't know how to give and take
Blame it all on someone else
One step forward
never seems to get you nowhere
Sinking faster
In you go
You want to save they day
so you grab on the reins and run in circles
You're going to crash and drag the world down with you
Only one thing remains
Hey man be aware
Better watch yourself today
I know he don't care
about you anyway
You can run but you can't hide
from the guilt you built inside
All the lies they won't forget
Never will get over it
Thinking backwards
How the hell did this get started
Drowning faster
Down you go
You want to save they day
so you grab on the reins and run in circles
You're going to crash and drag the world down with you
Only one thing remains
The lyrics of Default's song "One Thing Remains" convey a message of warning and admonishment towards an individual who is self-righteous and prideful. The opening lines of "You don't know it all / I've got you figured out" indicate that the singer has a deep understanding of the other person's character and motives, despite their facade of superiority. The lyrics then describe the flaws of this person, emphasizing their inability to compromise or take responsibility for their actions by saying that they "don't know how to give and take" and "blame it all on someone else." Additionally, the chorus warns that this person's refusal to change and constant need to be in control will lead to their downfall, taking others with them, as they "grab on the reins and run in circles," ultimately resulting in only "one thing" remaining.
The second verse of the song further emphasizes the consequences of this person's behavior, as they are unable to escape the internal guilt they have built up and the lies they have told. The lines "Thinking backwards / How the hell did this get started / Drowning faster / Down you go" describe the character's confusion and self-destruction in the aftermath of their actions. The chorus is then repeated, cementing the message that the individual's refusal to change will only lead to negative outcomes.
Overall, "One Thing Remains" is a cautionary tale about the consequences of stubbornness, self-righteousness, and refusal to accept responsibility. The lyrics warn that these traits will ultimately lead to a negative outcome, not only for the individual but also for those around them, and encourages the listener to strive for humility and self-awareness.
