This Feels Better
Defiance Ohio Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And this feels better. Better than it has in weeks.
In the first verse of Defiance Ohio’s song “This Feels Better,” the singer describes their frustration with the ongoing winter and the bleak headlines. They find solace in riding their skateboard to the park, which they acknowledge may seem like a superficial form of escape. The singer also recognizes the toxic masculinity present in the boys at the park, but chooses to focus on the joy they’re experiencing with their friends. The chorus emphasizes the cathartic release of the moment, singing “And this feels better. Better than it has in weeks.”
This song speaks to the importance of finding joy and connection in difficult times. Despite the state of the world and the oppressive forces present in their immediate environment, the singer is still able to find moments of release and togetherness. The song can be interpreted as a manifesto for self-care and resisting the forces that seek to divide us.
Overall, “This Feels Better” is an anthem for anyone seeking a reprieve from the chaos of the world, and a reminder that joy and resistance can coexist.
