The Chosen
Defiance Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Try to foresee what is to be
Made and Chosen I may be the one
Chosen I just might be the one to
Live
I never heard a word they said
But now I see the light shining
It leaves me pacified
Illusions leave me blind
Black is all I see
Formed is a twisted image
That was chosen for me
I never questioned why
I never saw a reason for suicide
Or planned to take my life
The will to live my mind sets free
Into the vast of misery
Tomorrow seems so far away
Illusions of conspiracy
My conscience is my only friend
Learn to live my life in peace
The chosen, I may be the one
To live my life and be set free
The Chosen by Defiance is a song about being chosen to live, but feeling blind due to the illusions that surround us. The singer is trying to foresee what is to be and wonders if they are the one who has been chosen to live. As the song progresses, the singer realizes that they have been living in an illusion and that it has left them blind. They can only see darkness and a twisted image that has been chosen for them.
The singer has never questioned why they are alive but has found their will to live. They wish to live their life and be set free from the illusions that surround them. Tomorrow seems far away due to the illusions of conspiracy that surround them. The singer's conscience is their only friend, and they have learned to live their life in peace. The song's overall message seems to be that we can be chosen to live, but we must learn to live our life in peace and see through the illusions that surround us.
