The Tragedy of the Commons
Delain Lyrics

Charlotte Wessels
To another commotion
To another disruption
To another explosion
I raise my glass
To another investment
Into the future of wasteland
Well here's to pulling the waistband

But I know at least I thought, at least I fight
At least I know at least I tried
I know I thought, I know I'll fight
Tonight I kiss the world goodbye

We are one, and one is all
Through self-destruction we fall
Close your eyes, to darkened skies
Our ignorant demise

To another obsession
Over another possession
Another deal well made
Well I raise my glass
And to the blissful ignoring
That the unclaimable objects
Decide our pitfall or prospect

I know at least I thought, at least I fight
At least I know at least I tried
I know I thought, I know I'll fight
Tonight I kiss the world goodbye

We are one, as one we fall
Our self-destruction of all
Close your eyes, to darkened skies
Our ignorance in demise

Alissa White-Gluz
This will lead to personal gain
But I won't feel any personal pain
All the global implications in vain
Yes, the price is high but so are the stakes
This belongs to all of us so
Really this belongs to no one at all
When it comes to owning up to our fall
Better brace yourself for the end of it all

At least I thought, at least I fight
At least I know at least I tried
I know I thought, I know I'll fight

Overall Meaning

The song "The Tragedy of the Commons" by Delain explores the greed and selfishness of humanity that comes at the expense of the planet and its resources. The lyricist raises a glass to celebrate the continued destruction of nature and the investment into a future wasteland. The repetition of the phrase "to another" highlights a certain apathy and indifference towards the consequences of our actions, and how we repeatedly make the same mistakes.

However, the lyricist also acknowledges that she is fighting and trying to make a difference, even if it feels like an uphill battle. She kisses the world goodbye in the sense that she is accepting the possibility of failure and the potentially dire consequences that come with it. The section sung by Alissa White-Gluz is a reminder that our individual gains and actions have a global impact, and that we will all suffer the consequences if we continue to prioritize personal gain over the well-being of the planet. The overall message of the song is a call to action to be more mindful of our impact on the world and to work towards sustainable and responsible practices.

How does Alissa not rip here vocal cords to pieces when she switches between harsh and normal vocal.
Amazing talent

@madDdog 67 that's 100% correct! Actually there are two tecniques of the so called voiceless screaming, fasle chord and fry screaming, the differnce is that the vocal chords that flapper/vibrate when speaking or clean singing are either fully open ore completly locked toggether.
Alissa does fry screaming while most people do false chord. Both techniques, if done properly, don't hurt the voice, I can do fry screams and/or falso chord for two hours or more with out even getting rough.
Switching between clean singing and voicless screams takes practice but if you've done both enough to get muscle memory you basically only have to remember when to change

Growling, if done properly, doesn't actually use the vocal chords...it's the area around the vocal chords that vibrates. There's a video of Lauren from Once Human at the throat doctor that describes and shows what's happening when she does it.

Death Growls are mostly from the chest. She is still using her throat but it's not harmful.

Alissa has also amazing "clean" voice. Check "Demons in you" with Tarja Turunen.
