We Are the Others
Delain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm walking with Sophie tonight,
She lives in the air that I breathe;
I can't get it out of my mind
How you were left to bleed
Was it how you dressed?
Or how you act?
I can't believe
How they could act so violently,
Without regret,
Well, we will not forget

We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others (we are the others)

As simple as air in your lungs
As simple as words on your lips
And no one should take that away
No one should argue this
Now with our heads up high
We'll carry on,
And carry out,
And we won't let them get us down,
Wear us out,
'Cause we are not alone

We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others (we are the others)

Normal is not the norm,
It's just a uniform
(We are the others)
Forget about the norm,
(We're the outsiders)
Take off your uniform,
(We are the others)
We are all beautiful,
(We are the others)

We are the others,
We are the cast outs,
We're the outsiders
But you can't hide us,
We are the others,
We are the cast outs
You're not out there on your own
If you feel mistreated,
Torn and cheated,
You're not alone,
We are the others (we are the others)

We are the others (we are the others)
We are the others

Overall Meaning

"We Are the Others" by Delain is a song that speaks out against bullying, discrimination, and violence. The chorus declares, "We are the others, we are the cast-outs, we're the outsiders, but you can't hide us." The song encourages those who feel mistreated, torn and cheated that they are not alone, and that they should embrace their differences and be proud of who they are. The line, "Normal is not the norm, it's just a uniform," highlights that society's expectations and standards should not limit an individual's self-expression or identity. As the song suggests, we should all be beautiful by accepting and embracing our unique qualities.

The song also calls attention to the tragic story of Sophie Lancaster, who was beaten to death by a group of teenagers in 2007 because of her punk appearance. The line, "I'm walking with Sophie tonight, she lives in the air that I breathe" implies that Lancaster's spirit has not been forgotten and continues to inspire and unite the "others."

Overall, "We Are the Others" is a powerful anthem that speaks to anyone who has ever felt like they didn't belong. The song urges listeners to stand up against hatred, embrace diversity, and celebrate individuality.

Rest in Peace Sylvia Lancaster (Sophie's mum) who put every ounce of her time and energy in getting some justice for her daughter and making sure we never forget her name through The Sophie Lancaster foundation

@Rodrigo Reyes I never heard of her at first too (I'm from the netherlands/holland), but I searched on google what happend to her because of this song. If you search her name you can find the story of what happend to her and her boyfriend. It's really terrible and tragic too read what happend to her/them. She was attacked without any reason while she was trying to protect her boyfriend, who got attacked by a group of people also without doing anything. So she was a very good person with a heart of gold and died, because she tried to protect her boyfriend of being kicked and beaten to death by a group of people without a soul.

@FTF Idk if this song deserved to be in the HD version of DB Budokai AF but who cares??? This might be inspirational in a fanmade alternate timeline of Dragon Ball that has a shitload of despair and darkness

This is still one of the most powerful songs that is completely and 100% inclusive. Black, White, Nerd, Outcast, Goth..... doesn't matter. We are all one.
When are we ALL going to get past the judgement? And before you think that you don't judge anyone.... when was the last time you used the name Karen in a joke?
When was the last time you sneered at someone wearing a Trump hat? When was the last time you looked down on someone wearing a Biden/Kamala shirt?
We are all human, we all make mistakes. We should never be defined by our mistakes. We also all grow.....
