Rhapsody
Delays Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You could've called, you could've ran,
You could've made a better plan,
You had the wheels, you found the keys,
You overcome the silent spring,

Another year, another town
Another life to circle round,
A bed of roses left to fade,
And like a rose you ruled this place,

Why wait for flowers in the evening?
Why wait for love to believe in?

Rhapsody, drown my laughter,
Sympathy, serenade the spark in me,
Wrap my heart in rhapsody,

You could've called, you could've ran,
You had the time to make demands,
On lovers here, a lover there,
A call to arms, a lighthouse stare,

Why wait for flowers in the evening?
Why wait for love to believe in?

Rhapsody, drown my laughter,
Sympathy, serenade the spark in me,
Wrap my heart in rhapsody,

Rhapsody came so close now
All at sea, forge a note you
Lost to me, lost my rhythm, rhapsody,

Oh rhapsody, break the code and climb the trees,
Watch the distant days recede,

Wrapmy heart in rhapsody,
Oh, rhapsody...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Delays's song Rhapsody tell a story of missed opportunities and regret. The first verse talks about someone who had the means to leave a situation but didn't take action to change it. The second verse takes a broader view of life as a series of cycles where things come and go. The chorus asks the question of why wait for love or happiness to believe in them, using the image of a rhapsody as a metaphor for the emotional journey.

The lyrics suggest a certain hesitancy in the singers' actions, perhaps motivated by fear or uncertainty. The rhapsody, as mentioned in the chorus, could be a way to escape from that fear and find a sense of release. The line "wrap my heart in rhapsody" could represent a desire to shield oneself from the harsh realities of the world and instead live in a fantasy.

The song's structure is built around repeating the chorus with the verses alternating between different lyrics. This structure creates a sense of momentum that drives the song forward, evoking the urgency of the emotions being expressed. The melody is also catchy and upbeat, adding to the sense of optimism and hope implicit in the lyrics.
