Delays have long been British rock’s best kept secret. A heady concoction of angelic harmonies, beat-group hauteur and groove-based hedonism, they belong to British pop’s most regal bloodline: (early) Floyd, The Smiths, The Stone Roses. Hitch a lift with them to North America, however, and you’ll see their euphoric ballroom blitz send fans into a frenzy. Head south of the border and it’s a full on teenage rampage.
Having signed to Rough Trade in 2004, they released their debut album Faded Seaside Glamour the same year. A riot of page-boy haircuts, nifty riffs and celestial harmonies, it boasted top Twenty hits ‘Long Time Coming’ and ‘Nearer Than Heaven’ and prompted the Guardian to describe them as "First band in a decade to lay serious claim to the Stone Roses Throne"- Follow up You See Colours (2006) saw their psych-pop blueprint delivered with added BPM. A brooding mix of “Voulez Vous’ and ‘The La’s’, it spawned alpha-pop hits ‘Valentine’ "Best comeback single of 2006"-NME and ‘Hideaway’. 2008 saw the release of the third album ' Everything's The Rush' - Epic, skyscraping - Indie-pop has never been so glorious and sweeping "-The Mirror..
Delays returned in 2010 with their eagerly-anticipated 4th album 'Star Tiger Star Ariel'

Sink Like a Stone
Delays Lyrics

Tides turning home; season came down, down comes the cold,
But oh no, hey, where did you go?
Oh no, I'm calling,
Don't let your heart break; this is your finest hour,
Don't let your heart break; it makes me feel like dying so I,
Sink like a stone (on my heels) and into the green, letting love go,
But oh no, hey, where did you go?
Don't let your heart break; this is your finest hour,
Don't let your heart break; it makes me feel like dying so Iâ?¦
Don't let your heart break; this is your finest hour,
Don't let your heart break; it makes me feel like dying so Iâ?¦
Delays' song Sink Like a Stone is a melancholic and introspective tribute to lost love. The opening line, "Sink like a stone, into the deep that's where we'll go" evokes a sense of falling into the infinite abyss of despair after a relationship ends. The imagery of the tides turning and the season changing symbolizes the passage of time and the inevitability of change. The theme of loss and heartbreak is repeated throughout the song, with the singer pleading with their lost love, "Don't let your heart break; this is your finest hour, it makes me feel like dying so I, sink like a stone (on my heels) and into the green, letting love go."
The lines "But oh no, hey, where did you go? Oh no, I'm calling," reveal that the singer is desperately searching for their lost love, but to no avail. This sense of hopelessness is compounded by the repeated refrain of "Don't let your heart break; this is your finest hour," which seems to suggest that the singer has accepted that the relationship is over and is now trying to console both themselves and their ex-lover. The song's haunting melody and rich instrumentation, including the mournful wail of a trumpet, add to its emotional depth and intensity.
Overall, Sink Like a Stone is a poignant meditation on the pain of lost love and the struggle to move on. Its raw emotional honesty and powerful imagery make it a standout track in Delays' discography.
