Duende
Delerium Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bleak desolation In a beam of Sun Scraping as I crawl (Your heart
can't
hear me)
Tearing bruising fall (Your hands can't hear me)
Thirsting raging blind (Your eyes can't hear me)
Racing against time (Your arms can't hear me)
Like an angel you'll come In a dream, precious one (And) Make me
beautifully numb
Desperate panicked calls (The wind can't hear me)
Muffled weak and small (The sand can't hear me)
Pleading, groping hands (The truth can't hear me)
Bleeding in the sand (Your heart can't hear me)
Bleak desolation In a beam of sun Like an angel you'll come in a
dream,
blessed one (And)
Make me joyfully numb
Razor fingers cling (The wind can't hear me)
Piercing demons sing (The sand can't hear me)
Twisting hollow Hell (The truth can't hear me)
Burning blisters swell (Your heart can't hear me)
Sharp cut aching breath (Your arms can't hear me)
Choking scent of death (Your hands can't hear me)
Gruelling jaw-bone grind (Your eyes can't hear me)
Cursed by my own mind (Your heart can't hear me)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Delerium's song "Duende" describe a bleak and desperate feeling of being isolated and unheard. The singer crawls and falls, suffering from thirst and racing against time, but no one seems to notice or hear their calls for help. The only hope lies in an angelic figure who may come in a dream and make them numb, freeing them from the pain and anguish of their reality. However, even this hope is tinged with a sense of desperation, as the singer pleads for joy and blessing to replace their current state of numbness.

The lyrics evoke a sense of physical and emotional pain, with images of bleeding in the sand, razor fingers, and burning blisters. The singer is trapped in their own mind, cursed with a sense of isolation that no one else seems to understand. The refrain of "Your heart can't hear me" emphasizes the theme of being unheard, and the repeated references to wind, sand, and truth suggest a feeling of being lost in a vast and uncaring world.

Overall, "Duende" is a powerful and emotional song that conveys a sense of despair and longing for connection. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a person struggling to be heard and understood, and the haunting melody and atmospheric instrumentation add to the sense of isolation and pain.

I love the combination of ethereal and dark elements to this song and video. Sounds almost tranquil but has a twisted subtext.

Introduced to Delerium via KARMA in 1997. It has been with me on my travels to Mongolia, Japan, Korea and in my lab. It never gets old, transportive, meditative, soothing. On rotation whenever I have to concentrate, write, or want on in the background while I putter in the apartment. Thank you to the members of Delerium for so many years of enjoyable music.
