4) Deliverance was a German-Canadian Christian pop and rock music band that was active in the 1970s until 1981. Danny Janz, Ken Janz, and Paul Janz formed Deliverance in Lorrach, Germany though the three were from Alberta, Canada. All three were raised in Basel, Switzerland and attended Black Forest Academy. Danny and Paul Janz had already performed together as "Danny and Paul" but joined with Ken in 1974 to form Deliverance — combining the "Janz Team Singers" with "Danny, Paul & Wayne" and created a dynamic new band. Guy Roellinger and Dave McSparran also joined the band during its history. The band released four albums before Paul Janz embarked on a solo career.
The group had a minor hit in 1979 with "Leaving L.A.", which reached #56 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After legal troubles concerning the band's name and a copyright suit the band named itself Janz and recorded a single in 1981 titled Steine which went #1 in German Charts. Deliverance Lyrics

Reading the signs and arrows
Driving away from the games we play
From horizons of gray
To the light of an endless day
I’ve got a road map to heaven
And each road is a cross
For the blind and the lost
I’ve got a road map to heaven – heaven
And X marks the spot
And there’s a crosswalk
Where my life was bought
I’ve got a road map to heaven
And each road is a cross
“drive drive drive He said”
“I want to drive drive drive He said”
I’ve got a road map to heaven
For the blind and the lost
The opening lines of Deliverance's song "Map" speaks of following the straight and narrow path towards a more fulfilling and meaningful existence. This is not an easy task as it involves reading signs and arrows indicating the way to go while driving away from the "games we play", which could refer to the distractions and obstacles that prevent us from achieving our goals. Deliverance then contrasts this picture of a bleak horizon with the light of an endless day, hinting at the rewards that await those who persevere in their journey towards a better life.
The central theme of the song is revealed in the chorus, "I've got a road map to heaven, and each road is a cross". This refers to the Christian belief that following Jesus Christ's example of selflessness, crucifixion, and resurrection is the way to eternal life in heaven. The use of the word "road map" is apt since it suggests a clearly defined path towards a destination, while the allusion to crosses highlights the sacrifices one must make to get there. The second stanza underscores this point by mentioning the crosswalk where Deliverance's life was bought, a reference to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which paved the way for salvation.
Overall, Deliverance's "Map" expresses a Christian worldview that emphasizes a life of sacrifice, dedication, and purposeful direction towards a better existence beyond the limitations of worldly distractions and desires.
